I'm currently an IT contractor who's paid weekly... the contract as it is ends on Friday the 31st and my new contract (different agency, better hourly rate) starts on Monday the 1st of November.

I was told last week that the new contract is paid MONTHLY so that gives me a grand total of 2 weeks wages left and then I'm not paid again until the 12th of December!!

I'm not loaded, I don't have thousands in the bank to last me through, I'm going to have a total of about £800 and that's meant to cover all my rent, bills, food, travel etc... Looks like i'll be living off the credit card's I have recieved with the thanks to this thread, Vanquis, Cap One, MBNA & FlyBe although I don't want to use the FlyBe if possible as I was using this purely as a card to balance transfer my other cards on to as it was free for 6 months.

Bloody nightmare I tell you!

Don't mind me asking, what part of the IT sector do you work in?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Sure, I'm a Desktop Support Engineer currently working for 4 of the big UK newspapers.. based in Glasgow.

2nd line officially but in reality, being that all of our 3rd level teams are down in London and that we have to work funny hours they don't, we tend to cover the majority of 3rd line server and application work too.

I'ts ok, it beat's the helpdesk background I came from about 18 months ago after doing some MS cert's but it's not something I plan staying in for more than another year or so. I plan to fund myself through CCNA in the new year then see what direction I want to go after that... I quite fancy Security, seems to be good money there.

Are you a fellow IT bod Proliant?
  • My prev post earlier today....any help anyone????

Sound, yea I was working as an IT Support Engineer, Servers, Network, Security, Desktop et al, the landed a post as IT Manager where I do the same ammount of hands-on but I get to make all the decisions, love my job as I don't see IT as work, just play, although it can get a bit heavy sometimes when things stop working and company directors just will not listen to reason. Go for the CCNA as you can demand around £40-£60k per annum doing network security, I am studying my CompTIA A+, N+, S+ and L+ (Linux security) not that have enough time always to open up my books.

Anyways, how are all our lovely sub primers today? I'm freezing!!!!!! I'm gonna put my pyjamas on and watch telly all cosied up!!

Had a random letter from Cap 1 today increasing my limit to £1600. Great I know, but they increased it over a month ago and they only just send me the letter now lol.

Still no increase on my Vanquis. I'm determined to get an increase out of them - still on £250 lol

Hope everyone's having a nixe cozy evening :D
