thanks to Proliant for starting this thread. It prompted me to apply for a Vanquis card. I had received an application in the post and was going to bin it, but I decided to apply and see what happened. I have three satisfied defaults on my credit report one due to drop off in August this year, another one in December, and my last one due to drop off in April next year so I wasn't too hopeful of getting one. Today however I got a phone-call at work from an extremely nice lady at Vanquis. She went over my application and then confirmed I had been successful and have a £1000 credit limit.:D The apr will be just over 39% but as I will be paying in full every month that doesn't matter!. I thought I would have to wait until next year to start and rebuild my credit rating, but now I can start now. I no longer feel like a second class citizen and am still in shock!!.
    Thanks again :T
Well done, the staff do seem to be very polite at Vanquis, I think a few financial houses we could mention should take note here, £1000 limit is quite good for a first after poor past so very well done. :T

Just a quick update, I have added the Cash Plus Pre-Paid Master Card to the front page of the thread because with the £50 loan it seems to fall in to this Sub-Prime category.

Just to add the T's and C's for this
As soon as you are a fully verified cashplus customer*, you are eligible to join creditbuilder.
creditbuilder is very simple. Here's how it works:
    • You need to be a cashplus customer to get creditbuilder.
    • You complete the simple application forms and send them to us with a copy of your identification to have creditbuilder added to your cashplus gold account for a year.
    • Advanced Payment Solutions Limited loan you £59.40 to pay for one year's use of your cashplus card - the money is only available for this purpose.
    • You pay NO interest, NO administration fees and NO extra charges!
    • You just need to make sure that there is at least £4.95 in your account every month.
    • We take the usual payments of £4.95 from your activeplus account every month, while you continue to top-up and use your cashplus prepaid gold MasterCard as normal.
    • After 12 monthly payments of £4.95, the £59.40 loan has been successfully repaid.
    • If all payments have been made on time, we report that you have completed a loan repayment to the credit bureau.
    • Your credit rating should be improved!
You may have been classified as a bad credit risk in the past. You may have missed loan or credit card repayments. You may have no credit history as you are new to the UK or are only 18. Don't worry - creditbuilder could help you repair your credit and improve your situation.
cashplus has always been a great way to help people to manage their finances, shop online, access cash overseas and share money with family and friends - but now it could help improve your credit rating too.
As soon as you have applied for your cashplus card, go to the creditbuilder site to get your application pack and you could start improving your credit rating while enjoying the benefits of your cashplus card.

Did they charge a monthly fee a few month back?

Cheers dazed, it seems to be the final port of call with this card, if you cant get one of the Sub Prime lenders to help you then I suppose this card should give you some starting point.

Just thought i'de drop in and tell about my experiences.

I was made bankrupt about 7 years ago and discharged 4 years ago.

My first credit card was the Capital One Secured card. Overall it got me back on the ladder but the consistently refused to up my credit limit. Card was paid off in full every month, never late.

Second card was an Aqua card. Accepted for this with a 500 limit. Since then it has increased to 1400. Card is used regularly, even though i'm living in Oz ATM. Customer service has been absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I also have an emergency card in the form of a Vanquis card. 500 limit which suits me fine. Actually i better phone and see if the account is still active as i haven't used it for about 10 months lol.
  • Does anyone know which card of all is the "easiest" to get if you have a naughty credit history?
