Well I received my capital one card with a £100 limit not much but it is my first cc in 6 years. Is it sad to say I am excited about getting a sub prime cc with £100 limit?

I will now be able to do things others take for granted like buy online. This is also the first time I have ever had any sort of chip and pin card. :o

Thanks for the advice I probably wouldn't have applied for this card without this thread.

Well done Proliant on being able to get a 0% card soon, fingers crossed that it goes to plan for you.

do u not have a debit card at all?

Well after I wrote my first post (page 113) I was declined for both capital one and aqua... The reason... "Maybe adverse information from previous address etc". No s**t. But fair enough.

For anyone struggling to get any kind of credit to help their credit files, albeit sub prime cards with rediculous rates, then to help your credit file along get a catalogue account. I have both SimplyBe and Next and both have a starting limit of £150. It's not much but once you have made a small purchase on each and then repay the whole balance off, they will report to all 3 credit bureaus with lovely green O's. Regardless if you buy with them again. Just keep the accounts open. The applications were easy and simple and next doesn't even require you to enter how long at address etc. I was successful online with a default on my report. Add that with the cash plus credit builder and your laughing all the way to a great credit rating.

I am considering applying for the MBNA card everyone is talking about, is it worth me waiting until a unsatisfied default has been removed from my report at the end of next month and I am on the electoral role? It seems they dont have any specific rules...

i honestly think it would be worth your while to wait, its only til the end of next month after all, and you may well get a much better deal with them rather than have to put a deposit down ........ maybe ........ or even have a higher interest .......... maybe?

Yes I will definately wait. Its been 6 years so another month wont hurt... Apparently I should see my credit rate significantly improve when it's off my credit report (credit expert customer service told me this). Apparently a default keeps your credit score from going above a certain level, so even if your excellent at repaying everything, the default will keep it at a very low level. I am surprised I was declined by Cap 1 and Aqua tho.

One thing I have noticed is no one has any set rules, I truly believe its luck of the draw. I doubt I will get MBNA if I can't even get Cap 1/Aqua.

have you tried natwest step up account, this requires no credit check, its open straight away, and youd get a solo card with it - all youd have to wait for is the relevant info to come through....

Halifax or Bank of Scotland will give you an Easycash account with a Visa Electron Debit card, Lloyds TSB Will give you a cash account with a Full Visa Debit minus the Cheque guarantee function and overdraft.

I tried to get a HBOS easycash account but it has been a palaver, I was told I had the account had to take in ID to local branch to receive card, did this and still no card phoned CS and was told I had to make a deposit before they would issue a card. Did this about 4 weeks ago and still haven't received the card, I need to chase this up but it isn't easy when I don't have a landline.

I tried to apply for the TSB account in branch and was told because I didn't have a passport I couldn't open an account .

Will look into the Natwest one thanks, don't think I have tried with them before because I don't have any branches near me.

Then get a p2 tax code notification sent to your address from the inland revenue, this is what I used as I don't hold a passport.

I've never heard of this, I don't pay tax would I still be able to get one of these?

I doubt my Lloyds would accept this, I asked at if there was anything else I could use as ID and was informed only a driving licence which I don't have either, I offered my tax credit award letter, student card , council tax bill (which HBOS accepted as ID) all were refused with the SA saying I really should get a passport as you need one nowadays .
