i rang haha, and got offered to pay £100 deposit for the visa card, so im going to get a postal order sorted out as it only takes 3 days for them to clear that apparently, so darcy, thanks for dropping the link in, hugs x

forgot to add, i do have a vanquis and capital 1 already, but im seriously thinking about dropping the capital 1, as i much prefer vanquis anyway especially for the customer service if i need to get hold of them

  • Never posted onto someone elses thread before so hope I am doing this right.

I posted the following in the crdit card forum and have been helpfully directed to here, so here goes

Basically have debt and incredibly bad credit rating I think its about 210.

I have heard of the prepaid credit cards that are available and I am wondering if by applying for one and maintaining this it will help repair my credit rating.

    Any advise would be brilliant

    Thanks

hiya charlie, welcome to the thread ,vanquis, aqua and capital 1 run cards that help you do that as well, without having a pre pay for them, have you applied for these at all? always worth a try to begin with i think, and then allow yourself to take the pre paid way if you have to

heres the vanquis link if you need it

  • hi charlie, i dont think the prepaid cards report to the credit reference agencys. the only one that does is the cashplus creditbuilder, but they charge £4.95 a month.

have you got your reports and found out whats wrong with them?

personally i think youd be better off just using your normal debit card with your bank than forking out money to have a pre-paid visa, or at least try to get one of the credit cards designed for bad credit
  • Thanks pink_fairy and emmy05

I haven't applied for any ot then mo.

To explain a bit more. Me and OH got into a lot of debt about 4 years ago. 2006 had ccj's recorded against us but the total of the debt involved has been paid off but obviously the ccj's still stand on my file.

We still have about 25k to pay off with Egg which we do on a monthly payment but they have a charging order on our property.

Although we have this debt we have never defaulted on our mortgage or other utility bills and have been on the electoral role for 4 years (don't know if this will help ).
