Even the items vary. I noticed the good old Jem CD a few weeks ago have three different bar codes. I had two blue ones scan at different prices, checked the bar codes and they were different. Then even after they put the ptice right on the blue one there was another copy with a colour picture on the from that still scanned wrong again another bar code.

I self scanned the colour one thought, here we go again, ended up taking two blue ones to the till that scanned fine, had to do a quick "I changed my mind"

It is reasonably common for the same CD / DVD/ Video Game to have different bar codes, it is often due to production issues / batch issues.

For example, Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater on PS2 has different bar codes hanging around, this was due to an issue on the first batch which meant all had to be unsealed and checked, the reason why many stores have to sell it non-sealed, while the later batch was okay and thus remained sealed.

    Can anyone tell answer this?
Do Tescos use a national database for their prices. I can't work how things can scan at different prices by region.

They have a central database as would be the case any any such organisation, price differences, seem to occur via either non-re-labelled stock, or new stock at different price, (in the case of meat and diary products) to that held on database, hence, loads of errors. They need a central price database for the purpose of inventory management and valuation, which will form part of the company's balance sheet, plus additional to work out product profitability, line profitability, etc.

Wow...not one misprice sel, poster or sticker in my local CD/DVD dept last night. Good News in one respect I suppose but could have done with a couple of DVD's/CD's to exchange for the Disney DVD BOGOF! Have 6 free disney dvd's to date! I'm sure it wont be long till they get sloppy again.
  • Have you managed to get any of the BOGOFs free? How did you manage an exchange?

    Dre
... and that's all I have to say about that.

The Co-Op is a regional business. My local shop in Norfolk does not have such a policy (or didn't a couple of weeks ago when I found a huge range of cheese misplrised and alerted them to it).

It's possible that other regions adopt the same policy.

    Hello Dre,
Yes I've managed to get 3 lots of Disney BOGOF's free so far - so 6 dvd's in total.
I just took back DVD's and CD's which Were given to me free as I was overcharged for them in one store (Princess Diaries, Kelly's Heroes, Flashdance/Footloose, Jem etc.) and asked in a couple of different stores if I could exchange them for the Disney BOGOF's. I either say I bought the wrong ones or they were unwanted gifts (which I suppose they are in a way LOL).
I said I didnt have a receipt (as I thought the biro on them showing the refund might open a can of worms) and they said that as long as the DVD's/CD's were unopened I could exchange them for others.
They wouldnt give any change or credit notes so the products have to be of equal or higher value. They are not supposed to issue a receipt for the new items, however I have had one given on one occasion.
It's been a great way to recoup the value of the products if they werent anything anyone I know would like as a gift.....and a great collection for my little one, which we wouldnt usually be able to afford at £15+ a shot! :j

Get back on the phone to HO, ask them what they think the papers would make of the situation and what they intend to do to ensure you are not humiliated each time you visit one of their premises?
