I'd be up for it, just not sure of the implications for the webmaster! There could be legal implications and you would have to be very careful just exactly what is presented I would think.

I even made a similar suggestion myself some time back in the thread but hindsight is now on my side, it wouldn't be as simple as not naming individuals because if you identify the store then in most cases you would effectively identify the individual in doing so, it looks a little messy for me and I wouldn't want anyone to end up on a plate for Tesco!

When my wife and I found out about the Tesco policy we made the extra effort to look for items that had a significant change or variation in price, and for a while it did us some good. However, my wife came back home after a visit to Tesco's to inform me that she had been stopped outside the store and spoken to by the manager for "taking liberties". He then accused her of buying way more products than we have ever, accused her of buying for Trade again which we have never, and generally embarassed her outside the store. At no point did he tell her she had the option to go into a private area, just merely carried on "telling her off" outside the busy store.
Warning to Tesco's if you want to advertise your policy don't be surprised if people actually benefit from it.

That's absolutely appaling behaviour! Have you noticed that it's all too often women on their own who are bullied in this way? I couldnt see anyone trying to treat my husband that way. It really is sad that they resort to trying to (and often succeding) intimidate their customers in this way.

I agree with Ben..I'd be inclined to get the manager in as public a spot as possible and demand he apologise to your wife for his bully boy tactics!

I suppose the more sensible thing to do would be to contact head office and let them deal with it though....maybe a combination of the two?

    !!!!!! Dastardly,

Check my post above as I've suggested a way I can help to co-ordinate everyone's gripes.

Please let me know if it's a good idea and I'll happily put it together.

Yes, I think it a damn fine idea, but as Ben500 rightly points out, we would need to ensure anonomity at least for the time being for our members, they are at least aware of cpjackson database and consumer forums (I have had managers telling me did you get it from the 'website' although do nothing about the issues raised), if a central point were available it may also be possible to post items such as scanned receipts, thus allowing an exact correlation of information, etc.

I know from my experiences with Tescos they'd love to know my exact location and name, which given Tesco's blatant disregard for integrity I have felt compelled to avoid as a necessary evil, in this area.

Would not want to claim on my Tescos house insurance for a brick thrown through the window by CS or store manager, might be excluded in the small print :rotfl: :rotfl:
Drat and Double Drat, curse that Mr T excuse for not giving me a refund.

EVERY LITTLE EXCUSE HELPS in trying to get out of the R&R policy when the law has been broken, especially on high value items. :D

Have thought some more on this, and agree we would have to be very careful. The idea of a central point for posting grievances is an excellent one, perhaps there is another way rather than something that would be in the public domain, as Ben and !!!!!! rightly point out a Web page could work against us. WITH ALL OUR COLLECTIVE BRAINS THERE MUST BE A WAY.

You could always create a password protected site? That way it would effectively be private - not in the public domain. Perhaps only regular posters could have access to view it and others could send their experiences by email to be added?
Maybe the correlated experiences could then be forwarded to HQ once a month or something.
I have been lucky so far and had no bad CS experiences...only a few dis-chuffed looks. But some of the posts I've read have been disgraceful regarding bullying treatment.
I hope you can help to highlight this treatment!

I'm new to this and have only just tried my 2nd Tesco visit with their policy in mind. The first time was fine and came away with 3 x Scottish Beef Mince and 1 Extra Mature Farmhouse Cheddar for a total refund of £10.37. Not a bad start.....but yesterday, armed with a bit more confidence, I went into Castle Lane, Bournemouth store to specifically buy a few of the items posted here:

    http://www.cpjackson.co.uk/cgi-bin/misprices/index.pl

I didn't go overboard and only selected 4 things:

1 x outdoor bred pork fillet medallions
1 x Tesco Finest Parmigiano Reggiano Parmesan
1 x Bacon joint - smoked and unsmoked
1 x Finest Cheeses marked £9.95 but on shelf £9.99

I was in a hurry so didn't have time to thoroughly check all prices, although I noticed that on scanning, each item said "refer to a member of staff". I thought I would check at home and go back to CS the following day. Unfortunately ALL above items were charged at the lower price so although it's not a big deal, I have ended up buying £10+ worth of goods which I don't really need.

Lesson for me is to not rush in and I guess a warning for all of us that not all stores have the same deals. Also all CDs mentioned in other posts were crossed out on poster so either I am unlucky and my local store is particularly hot on this or they are all generally getting wised up quickly.

Will be more cautious next time!
    Quidco ~ £3,718 | Greasypalm ~ £354 | Freefivers ~ £45 | Pigsback ~ £260 shopping vouchers + 15 CDs
    Total cashback / freebies / money-saving: 2006 ~ £3,961 | 2007 ~ 3,610 | 2008 ~ £4,159 | 2009 ~ £1,449

  • Hi all again,

I'll create a design over the course of the week and see where we go from there.

I believe it is important to record details as they are stored here about the location, store, department and the name of the person(s) who dealt with the query.

Not all of this would be publicly visible though. If Tesco wanted fine details then they can get access to that. Other than that I'd suggest that what's publicly visible is stats for the stores overall with links to here for the full 'story' and commentary from the community.

In effect what we would see would be :-

    Coventry store a (5 Issues with managers in departments x & y)
Belfast store (3 Issues with managers in department x)
Inverurie store b (7 Issues with managers in departments y)

This gives us an idea of the hit-rate of problems without naming and shaming in public. If Tesco wish to take it further we can provide them exported data on a weekly/monthly basis. It wouldn't be for community consumption.

Also, this wouldn't just be for Tesco but any retailer to my mind. Just a few thoughts.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

My first thoughts, are you registrered for it under the data protection act?

I would not get involved it that if I were you, very risky.

I was in there today and got two copies of Akon cd and two copies of George Michael.

  • The data protection act is geared towards data gathering and the manipulation of consumer data rather than company information which is governed by a different, though similar, set of laws. True the DP 1986 does cover businesses but not that I'm aware in a way that would restrict what I'm suggesting here.

I'll hold off for now, develop the site as I see it and have a think about whether or not to offer it to the community after it's done.

This is an idea for part of a much larger site I am designing anyway so I'll be doing this sooner or later regardless of it's suitability for here.

If interest grows I'm happy to help though. Tesco, specifically, is terrible with it's CS record.
... and that's all I have to say about that.
