On Tuesday i got the toprump beef free(i only picked up the one at the time but the biggest piece) no problems.Went back to the same store today not expecting to see the same item still wrong but there was a shelf edge label still there.Anyway got 2 and went to CS.She didn't have a clue what i was going on about when i explained i was overcharged per kilo/pound.She had to phone the meat manager who was down his isle and she went to see him and she came back and said to me he has said it's right they have to show the kilo and pound prices.I said what i'm not questioning that you are overcharging on all them beef joints sitting there as they are all overpriced.Again she just said no but it's right because we have to show the kilo and pound price.I gave up in the end and got a refund but did go to try and find the meat manager but sadly he wasn't there any longer.Anyway never mind she did put the label back so i can try again another time of day;)

  • Thanks rach1973, when you complained were you complaining because you had returned an item ?

I was overcharged in one instance and the second I genuinely had to return some clothes (way too big for my 2 & 1/2 yr old even though they were a size 18 - 24 mths) On writing down my name & address I had other customers in the queue peering over my shoulder...so I emailed them.....HO, and said I was not happy doing this as I don't think it is safe. The fact that my Husband is away alot of the time (in the Navy) adds to this and I don't like the fact that 'anyone' could see who I am and where I live.

Does this make sense??? Had a bad night last night

I buy what I need and that is all – arguing over a small overcharge for the sake of getting some free cheese that I never even wanted seems like a waste of time to me.

How about this then next time you think pointing out an overcharge is a waste of time pretend you are Robin Hood or one of the four muskateers or a Marvel Comic Hero and just for sheer community spirit do it so all the other folk out there who for one reason or another can't or won't go to CS WON'T BE OVERGHARGED SOMETIMES BY UP TO 100% and yes I can prove that one. You dont have to buy if your ethics wont allow simply lead the CS by the hand to the offending item and ask tham to report and remove the label.

Not at all - I view the thread out of curiosity more than anything. And don't forget (I've said enough times) it's a discussion forum so I'm entitled to post my views.
In all fairness, Ben500 hasn't actually said that he knows anything about you for a fact he is simply expressing his opinion. As you have already said wallace, it's a discussion forum where people are entitled to post their views (aka opinions)

    Agree with this 100%.
I had a refund the other day....and its been bugging me that we might actually be endorsing Tescos overprice "mistakes". OK we win some small change, but 99% of of the rest of the pop don't check or won't be bothered -so actually TESCO win - BIG.

Surely we would be better getting together, gathering evidence and organising at a national level... so we could take a swipe at the corporation rather than the individual stores?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  • I was just thinking the very same thing.

Speaking to Trading Standards recently, it becomes clear that they have 'procedures' and 'protocols' and bureaucracy to contend with so even though the officer visited the store today and saw the breaches (no weights on shelf-edge 'talkers'), and agreed with me that they are 'misleading', it has to be forwarded up to regional level etc.

My question is, why CAN'T I (or we) bring some sort of private prosecution and bring them to account? I have photos from my mobile phone but there's plenty of clear ongoing evidence available because the stores I'm thinking of still don't think they're in the wrong with this kind of misleading labelling (as long as the smaller SEL is there somewhere), so they are carrying on doing it regardless!

For the THIRD time now the 'Butlers' cheese is mispriced at £9.99 /kg. I just can't be bothered with it again and the wife won't let me buy any more cheese for the time being! Just look at the incompetence of it though.

Another example, I got a refund on 2 packets of 'quick cook' Turkey two days ago and gave them time to fix the labelling.... went back today and snatched 5 more packets this time as if to hammer home the point. (Turns out the offer closed 6 days ago!) This is how bad and therefore how illegal things are without there being the direct threat of litigation.

In fact, one aspect of my legal argument is that they are using the 'Head Office' trump card as a way of (a) delaying tactics, (b) 9 out of 10 will not bother with HO and (c) a way of passing the buck since this is a 'national' policy and the local store therefore sidesteps paying out for the refund that way!

So what about it - a class action suit? I'm up for it!

I'm also conscious though that most of us don't want to kill this 'cash cow' by getting Tesco's to always get the price right... but there's not much chance of that now is there! We just need to hit them hard enough so that they balance the attitude and gratitude towards people who highlight these errors and follow through diligently with clearing up those errors.

p.s. I just posted a Courvoisier cognac misprice over on the other thread. I had to think of ben500 when the lady next to me got over £17 refund, standing right next to me! (Couldn't find same error in other local stores though!)
    This too, shall pass.
  • Why would you want to bring a private prosecution againest Tescos?I don't think that you'd get much support from those of us who have benefited from the odd piece of refunded cheese and who enjoy the perk while it lasts. You would kill this 'cash cow'that is definate. Please let this one drop.Tesco is not the only store to make pricing errors,it is possibly the largest.it is not a deliberate ploy to deceive customers. Why do we need to hit them hard, surely we are already. If people are daft enough to not check their receipts for errors then that's their problem.Tesco do own the problem and have a policy to compensate.Trading Standards are well aware of pricing errors,I'm sure they have bigger problems to contend with. The way you are ranting and raving does not help.Very soon I'm sure that Tesco's policy will be changed bringing it in line with the less generous policies of other supermarkets before long.Perhaps then you will be happy?
  • Surely most people's gripe with Tesco is not that they misprice goods (as many others do, albeit that Tesco seem to be worse than others at this). It's that they have a policy in place to avoid problems with trading standards but then, in many reported cases, are not willing to honour this more than once or twice per customer without being unpleasant, awkward and hostile over it.

If they wanted to, they could just limit the "item for free" to just one of each type of item purchased (per day) and just refund the overcharged amount on multiple purchases. It is their choice, at the moment, not to do this. It's not really a choice for them to abandon the policy altogether as commercially the ensuing problems with TS (and customer confidence in correct pricing) would probably be far more costly. They ain't put this policy there out of the goodness of their hearts, have they?

It beggars belief that there's so many incidents of CS staff trying to wriggle out of following official company policy and being so nasty about it. In most well-run companies, being rude, unpleasant or lying to customers would be a disciplinary offence.
