Read the title of this thread very carefully - the big clue is the word 'discussion'. You may find the Oxford English dictionary useful, since you appear not to know what this word means. (As well as not understanding the correct use of punctuation).

A discussion might be rather boring if everyone agreed 100% with every opinion raised.

WALLACE are you definitely sure that you are not are Mr T's CS rep, or at least a wannabe CS. ;) Go on you can tell us you don't have to be embarrassed. ;)

Excuse my lack of English, maybe due to being half Sicilian (but I do speak Italian & the Sicilian Dialect, so that kind of makes up for it I suppose), but I don't think these are just policy dicussions, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. ;) .

Naughty Naughty all those viewings and not a single mispriced item found, you surely do have a very efficient store where you shop, maybe another MSEr is beating you to the items.

My advice is get up earlier !!! You know what they say 'the early bird gets all the Mr T freebies ...... I mean catches the worm'. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :D

Out of curiosity, if you purchased any of the items did you go to customer service and report that you had been under-charged? Somehow I doubt it!

As a matter of fact, when I pointed out the O/C misprice on chicken that I got, which they did nothing about. I pointed out to the CS, look here this turkey here is undercharged, should be 7.22kg but half shelf 5.22kg, you best get someone to sort that there must be 50kg of the stuff underpriced in there that's £100 lost (as a person who holds a fair pot of loot in the FTSE funds I need to protect my investment  ;) ). Guess what, did anyone do anything about it ???? Well you know the answer to that !

I also pointed out that I'd been over-refunded once, the CS was so mad about having to refund that she refunded the item and gave me the difference, 'you have given me TOO MUCH' I repeated several times, after a while I got fed up and put in my PIN, then she realised 'ooooh I get it i've given you too much' 'I can't be bothered to sort it out now it'll have to do'

  • Just returned from Tescos Barry, oh dear, I am not as assertive as you fellow MsEs anyway, picked up the Jem cd, £7.96 on poster, on shelf price £9.77. It wouldn't scan but decided to chance it anyway. It went through at £9.77 so off I trotted to CS, they took over 20 mins, checking the poster etc. Manager was called and CS lady said to him "need to clear it with you, as she has been in before for refunds", probably only 3 times in about 5 weeks. He agreed the refund, she processed it and as I looked on the counter she was writing my name on a refund slip, she took the name from my credit card. I know by paying by cash she would not have my name but anyway I asked her why she was doing it and she said it was a new Tesco policy that they take the name of everyone getting a refund.
Now, I feel like phoning up the Manager and complaining but I'll probably get flustered and I want to shop there in future so dont want to p*** them off. What I might do is email TESCO HO as I really felt like a criminal, I have taken advantage of their policy yes but I feel badly treated and taking my name, surely that shouldn't be done without my permission ! If I see a misprice in future, must I really ignore it ? thing is I am not like some of you on here and I hate any conflict etc.

  • Just to clear up the undercharge - I got a refund yesterday of Jem, and then walking out noticed I had still got an item under my son (who was in the trolley) - very embarressed went back to cashier and asked if I could pay, item was only 97p, and I explained that I only had my cards on me, they thought it was so funny, and said dont worry put it on the card (i offered to leave the item)
so yes, we do note when we have not paid for something, and yes I told them last week when they charged me for 3 not 4 yogurts.

Spa's opening post to this thread stated that she works for Tesco and her role in the company. She went on to post what she called opinions and facts. When she started posting "facts" about Tesco, she was posting on behalf of her company without authorisation. Tesco does not want its employees posting information about how they work for all and sundry to read.

Oh, and as for Tesco not being able to stop an employee's right to freedom of speech; posting confidential information on the working practices of a company in your capacity as an employee can lead to termination of your contract for breach of confidentiality.

Nice assumption about the she...totally wrong but hey, who am i to split hairs!

Once again, and as already stated, anything I post on here is my own opinion.....

    Any facts that i posted
Fact: Tesco uses rather old systems in its offices, and whilst on the surface the technology may appear modern, some of the support equipment is simply out of date and thus hampers rather than helps the staff - they realise this is not good enough for the company and are doing something about it, it does however take time.

Fact: In a large store there can be over 7000 price changes PER WEEK, every one has to be done manually and there are checks in place that happen to ensure that these are completed. Every price integrity department is audited on a very regular basis. There is no corporate conspiracy and no intent to overcharge anyone deliberately.

Fact: The majority of staff in the price integrity departments work hard in their jobs however, there are inevitably some errors, bear in mind that Tesco stock over 20000 lines in its larger stores, and then think how many wrong prices you see on the net.....

are already in the public domain, no confidential information (not that i have any anyway) has been posted, you can google (try this one) to find the technology that Tesco uses, and any company that isnt audited wont be around for long!!

You can count the number of lines in a big store, it may take a while but you can do it....you can watch the staff to see if they work hard, you can even check the prices manually weekly to see what changes....again, no confidential infromation there.

Nowhere have i said i am posting on behalf of tesco, quite the opposite in fact.

Please show me where i have posted confidential information on working practices at tesco, i wasnt even aware we had confidential working practices instore.....

This is not their policy as I emailed them last week asking if this was the case...do not let them bully you.

I emailed them the other day about this practice of giving them your name and address when returning an item and received this email from them this morning..................

    Thank you for your email.

It is standard practise for the store to ask our customer for their name and address should any item be returned for a refund or exchange.

However, please note that this is not an obligation. Therefore, if you are uncomfortable doing this, please advise the customer assistance that you do not wish to do this.

At no point do we wish any of our customers to feel vulnerable when using or visiting our stores.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to contact us.
  • I meant to say it is not an obligation for you to give out your name & address :o

    Silly me
  • Thanks rach1973, when you complained were you complaining because you had returned an item ? Today, I was overcharged so I sought a refund and they just took my name from my credit card when processing the refund. If I hadn't noticed I would have been none the wiser as she didn't say she was writing my name down. Is this now common practice for everyone that seeks a refund ? I just wonder if they now have a list of people seeking refunds in Barry !! I think I will complain to HO.
