Have to buy the product before going to CS and telling them that you have been overcharged (very sweetly), don't mention it to the cashier or you'll be charged the correct price.

Go with the CS person to check the SEL so that they can't remove it and say that you are incorrect.

Just wondered, wat's the best way to claim a misprice?

Do you pay, then walk up to CS stating you've been overcharged, or simply state this at the till/before paying (that the price is wrong)?

Yes, pay at till first without mentioning any overprice, then go to CS and say that you've been overcharged on item X.
Recommend that you use the instore self-scanner(s) to check the price first though.

Also, do you guys take the SEL (as proof); I suspect if they wanted to, when you dispute the price, and they trot off to o check the SEL, they could simply say there is no SEL (sneekily removing it as you're not there with them), hence the wring price (you paid) was correct.

When the person goes off to find the price you can go with them to check ti out.
Most staff I would say are honest enough to come back with the SEL, although if not stand your ground, but speak calmly and politely to the member of staff or manager, whoever comes.
If they still refuse to budge threaten them with a letter to H.O. and carry this out if you have to.

I can see myself getting as far as CS, but them coming back with some kind of get-out-clause, not honouring their policy....anyone been UNsuccessful at this point and simply given up?

Thinking of trying it with the laptop which may well be pispriced (have to scan first). Obviously, this is an expensive item and I can see the manager not honouring it - what do I do in this case?

They may say something like "It's at the discretion of the manager. etc, etc, complain to HO".

May sound like a silly question, but I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who may have been in a similar situation.

As far as I know, the laptops aren't mispriced. They scan at the cheaper price.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

Someone from work is getting their misprice CDs and PS2 games and putting them on the work classifieds, spotted all their ads a mile off.

Never give up on your rights, a brief word into their ear about a call to your local trading standards office, should do the trick.
TRADING STANDARDS - Breach of Consumer Protection Act 1987 S20 S21.

"Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader."
(quote taken from someone on a previous page a while ago)

Laptop prices depends on store. Do a quick "search this thread" for "laptops" for previous posts on this.

Not at the discretion of the manager it's their policy, usually sign above cs desk. Ask to phone Ho from store if you get grief, if they don't sort it, letter to:
    Sir Terry Leahy
    Tesco PLC
    New Tesco House
    Dealmare Road
    Cheshunt
    Hertfordshire
    EN8 9SL.

Remember you can take the laptop back and get a full refund.

I won't recommend trying to get the laptop though, they may put you on a 'banned' list.
  • I got the west wing boxset series 5, SEL was 39.96, i was charged 39.97. Went to CS smiled sweetly and said I know your gonna hate me but I've been overcharged by a penny and I know you have some kind of price promise. She asked me to go back and get the SEL, which I took back to her and she said well done you get this for free.

Mostly though they have tried to give me a refund of the difference till I point out their promise to them. Sometimes I've been left waiting for 20mins, I must stop going in before work!!. I'm quite lucky as I have 5 tescos to choose from.

Aren't the DVD's in your store in plastic boxes?

Ones where I am are and have no stickers or anything on them, hence can't check the prices.
Also i'm sure i noticed a sign in my local; saying that "dvd's and games must be taken to customer services to be purchased" or something to that effect.
If not i'm going mad, i blame the lecturers at Uni.
  • The dvds are in plastic boxes, but the box sets have a barcode on the top so you can still scan them on the self scanner. I just bought this at the normal checkout. CD's are hard to check on the self scanners because the plastic boxes they use normally have a thick seam going through the barcode.
  • Also, I think I must have scanned all the ps2 games marked up as 13.97, but they all seem correct.
