Does anyone know if the full refund and keep product policy still applies when using a self scanning till? Was overcharged on two CD's and a book today and CS started to give a refund, then checked with her colleague and decided we were only entitled to the difference back. Pointed out the policy notice behind them and they told us that because we used a self scanning till it was down to our own error. OH was too embarrassed to argue, so left with just the difference refunded. Not at all happy. Is it worth a call to HO, or will they tell me the same story? If anyone thinks it is worth a phone call, can someone let me know the freephone number. Thanks.

HO systems were down when I phoned yesterday, so will be trying again today.

    Hi

Ive been trying to get my head around tesco's pricing especially the cd/dvd section. Please someone correct me if im wrong on my "philosophy" of tesco pricing:

All their prices appear to be ending in 7 especially cd/dvd section. For example £7.97, £10.87, £14.77 etc. Anyone see a pattern emerging? So let say we see a SEL not ending in 7 we can presume it's wrong, especially again cd/dvd section?

Anybody thinking what im thinking? or am I thinking too much about tesco prices?

I wouldnt assume anything about the prices...although generally they do end in a 7, they sometimes end with a 4 too.
I would probably scan one if it didnt end in a 7 or 4, just in case :)
We have now crossed the £1000 mark with r&r's and have the receipts to prove it! I'm sure trading standards would be interested and if we ever get any hassle from Tesco's I'll certainly send them in!
  • My local store ( Mereway, Northampton ) seems to have followed suit and removed the display pertaining to the misprice policy, but in case they start asking i had a look around the website and found it here :)

PS The scanner in this store is STILL out of order, a coincidence ?

abijanzo - over £1000 (:T ) - have you not had any grief from Mr T?

I've had about half a dozen things, and they made me feel like a criminal with my free chicken kievs for £3.98.

I think the Huddersfield store must have a mole that reads this thread. I have only ever found organic cheese mispriced. Anyone else have the same problem?

The new policy (as per the link given) states: 'In the unlikely event that we overcharge you we will give you your money back and you can keep this product'.

The previous policy stated: 'In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product'.

These statements might appear to mean the same thing, but I recently had a disagreement (now being attended to by the local Trading Standards, I hasten to add!) whereby the price on the SEL was lower than that on the packet, and I was told by Mrs Tesco that this might be misleading (you're darned right, it was!) but that it was a genuine error, and that the correct price was as shown on the packet. I was offered a full refund on return of the goods, OR (eventually) a refund of the difference in price between the SEL and the packet price; however, I was informed that there was no way in which I would receive a refund AND be allowed to keep the items as there was no actual overcharge.

I contacted Trading Standards and pointed out Tesco's policy as displayed at Customer Services (ie: the 'previous policy' referred to above). Mr Trading Standards has suggested to the Store that I be offered 'refund + retain', but the core of the argument was whether or not I had actually been overcharged. I am still unclear as to the outcome on this point, as it was presented to me that the 'refund + retain' is really a gesture of goodwill.

If-&-when this is clarified, I will let you know, but - meanwhile - perhaps someone with a working knowledge of the relevant legislation could enlighten everyone?
    If it's cheap, I'm cheerful!

Perhaps they should be clear on what actually constitutes an overcharge now..... ??? if looks like an overcharge, and smells like an.....

    Sorry - can't do r+r on that - it's a genuine error - as opposed to what exactly? A DELIBERATE error? :D

    Hi Sarah,
No not really had any grief to speak of - just one unpleasant cs lady but she was unpleasant before the r&r anyway! Guess weve been lucky, but this has been spread around a few stores...I think it's when you get r&r week after week at the same store that they can get unpleasant.

Managed to get the Thomas lights book today. Price on book 34.97, scanned at £6.97. Refund no probs.
  • Just a thought - I saw the new UB40 double album advertised on TV last week for £9.77 in tesco, instore the SEL was £10 something - how would I have stood on R&R for that item if it had scanned at the higher price?

As it was I couldnt check as the barcode was covered by one of those magnetic security strips and there was no CD chart posters up.

    Anyone know?
