I think that Tesco Head Office are starting to wake up and realise that the policy is being abused, and it is costing them money. (Arguments such as "they can afford it" don't matter; like any business, Tesco will seek to reduce costs when possible).

The policy exists to compensate customers who have genuinely been overcharged. It was not intended to be used as a means of getting basket-loads of free shopping by customers who actively seek to get themselves overcharged.

Before long I think the policy will be withdrawn or re-written to have restrictions added.

fair point. If we all try to get too much free stuff then they will change the policy and we won't be able to get any freebies at all. Maybe we should all look for only 1 or 2 items per trip and not overload ourselves and Tesco's. It would be nice to keep this one running as long as we can without Tesco changing their policy.

Aren't you missing the point though?

We shouldn't be able to find basket-loads of items that are being overcharged *nationally*.
  • Thankyou everyone for the words of support...even this morning I can't get the female manager's horrible way she handled me out of my head. There are three big stores in Poole (and I can use the Tower Park Extra or Poole Rd,Branksome one instead - which if anyone knows Poole, knows which one it is without me naming and shaming!)

I do have to go to Tesco today or tomorrow to pick up a few bits. I am quite tempted to go back to the same store and buy what I need, but not look for any mis-prices, just to show them they haven't scared me away. It is a shame because of the three stores, they have so many mistakes there it is something every time - last Sunday when I went in, the organic brie was still wrong, but I didn't bother because I have loads of cheese already in the fridge! It's not as if I had only spent money on the mis-price items - my bill was for over £40!

I wouldn't know where to write to , does anyone have an address they can give me , either on the board or by private message/email?

    Keren,

Take care as the CS staff from the store you are talking about also work at Tower Park. I know as I went in at the weekend trying to alternate the stores only to find the same CS lady at the till so i left quickly.

But what if you are overcharged, without looking for it?

Go for it Keren. Make sure you wear a big arrow over your head too saying,

If you want to get lots of items for free, ask me how.

You've done nothing wrong at all. Walk in with your head high gal and get your milk.

Let us know if you spot any security guards lurking behind corners to weed you out.

  • Some outragous behaviour from some Tesco CS staff and managers.

Given their recent profits anouncement and their utter incompetence in getting prices right, it's appropraite for them to continue with the pricing policy. Let's face it, the alternative are punative fines from trading standards. I understand that it can be £2000 per item? Can anybody confirm this, better still provide a link to the appropraite legistation?

I was in Blue Bore(sic) store last night, Norwich, and picked up about £35 of Chicken and Beef that was mispriced. It look over 45 minutes (YES FORTY FIVE MINUTES) to get it sorted with initial denials that there was an overcharge, then a massive wait during which I thought the CS staff had taken a break, then two return trips to the meat isles with a manager to prove the point.

At least three shelves had the wrong price ticket on them or had been incorrectly stocked. I guess that they've removed the tickets now, certainly the one for the Lenon & garlic chicken one had gone during my "discussion" with them.

The point is that Tesco is universally getting this wrong and is regularly breaking the law and making people pay more than they are required to. Quite how, I don't know as they have all the handheld technology availabe to scan shelf tickets and product tickets.

Blue Bore (sic) is undergoing a major refit to make it into a Tesco Extra and there's big signs up saying that the new area won't be open just yet due to "unforseen circumstances". I would imagine that whilst they're going though this turmoil, there will be more "unforseen circumstances" occuring in their pricing too.
  • i was in MR Ts today on business and as part of that had to go into the security office where the cctv can be viewed

Imagine my suprise when there on the desk was a still of myself at the CS desk with the words "persistent refunder" written on it

I have had two refunds in the last two weeks!

I made a joke of it with the security guy, and he laughed as well, saying that CS staff got in a huff with people who knew their rights, and that they were perfectly entitled to have their money back and keep the goods.

The photo ended up being used as note paper, but I was just suprised to see the piccy

doesnt help I suppose being quite big with a bald head (so I stand out) and also I suppose having pleasant conversations with the CS staff probably makes me more memorable as well.

What???!!!!!!! I'm beginning to get paranoid when nipping into Tesco for my lunch now!

So, in all of this, what Tesco is really saying is that, if you find you've been overcharged more than a couple of times, you should just take it on the chin and not ask for a refund?

  • CS tried to fob me off today over the Jem CD saying that because the shelf price was £9.97 and the poster price was £7.97 then they would only refund the difference. I politely said that I would prefer a full refund and the product for free as per their policy (pointing upwards at big sign) and she immediately said ok "on this occasion"... She was polite to me but I felt rather chilly due to either my frozen purchases defrosting as I waited ages for them to check the price or maybe it was the icy stares from the two other CS ladies who'd served me previously for meat refunds!!

Meat prices all seem very accurate now though - just goes to show what can be achieved when you try hard!

Also, found the 200g smoked salmon at a Tesco express was going through at lower shelf price not higher price marked on pack. Beware!
