    Interesting in Winchester today.

Went in as I passed, found finest cheese with apricots (not had this one before) went and paid and went to CS as you do.

She said "were you not in last weekend with cheese too", I said yep she said "can't belive thay have not sorted it out yet".

But then she pointed to a sign on the wall and said I can only let you have 2 as Tesco bulk Buy policy is 2!!!!!

I said "so I can only buy 1x bogof then" and she said yes!!!!

She told me is was Tesco policy, we know thats not true and the sign was clearly made on a pc and not a propper sign but it just shows you how far the stores are going.

Email tomorrow to HQ aking why bulk buy and BULK being the word here is 2!!!!!
How about trying this out on the wine you know the one 10% discount on 6 bottles or more. If they let you purchase them go straight to CS ask for money back as you have just noticed their bulk buy policy and have contravened it. If everyone you know does this at this Tescos bet they soon remove the hand made sign.

I've worked out that where the price per kg difference is as little as 1p and the pack weight is half kg or less, it's probable that in practice there won't be an overcharge at the till, eg 0.5kg @ £5/kg = £2.50 and 0.5kg @ £4.99 = £2.50

This principal could also apply to other differences of 2p, 3p etc - depending on the pack weight I guess.

An astute CSA may spot this although I haven't heard of it happening.

Although in this scenario a bit of mathematical rounding woffle is sure to get you out of the hole and totally bamboozal most CS's if done with any degree of authority (even if it not entirely mathematically correct), or surely let's take the it to 2 signficant figures arguement would be ok to ;) . 0.5kg @ £5 per kg = £2.50, while 0.5kg @ £4.99 = £2.495 ;)

Why of why did they get rid of 1/2 pences !!! :rotfl: Did Mr T's have anything to do with it ?

Quick question for all - any official rules or guidelines on in-store photography (and digital recording in general)?

As Tesco stores are private property, they are probably within their rights to request that you don't use a camera if they don't want you to. However, I doubt any manager would ask you to stop taking pictures if they saw you.

If you are recording a conversation, it's good practice to let the other person know you are recording them. If you don't, and then wanted to use the recording in court, it may not be allowed as evidence.

Rather wee small hours(first listings with Amazon have taken hours-cumbersome)but hope all will listen in to Radio 5 to catch what is supposed to be quite a big Tesco Self-Promote-as-News in a few hours. The Puffery was previewed on their Money slot around 5am yesterday, then heard a bit on business news around 21h, but tomorrow's supposed to be IT. Shall we be listening? I suspect we shall.....

"Pre-tax profits for the 24 weeks to 13 August rose to £908m ($1.6bn), beating economist forecasts of £886m.

Sales at Britain's biggest grocer rose by 14.1% to £18.8bn, with UK same-store sales up 8.2%. "

........... they can afford a few refunds :)

With £18bn sales in 24 weeks, say 75% of it either instore, or via grocery website (delivered from store), so thats say £13.5bn sales, that's roughly, £29bn sales in the year. From our experience you'd say that between 1% and 0.5% (that's 1p for every £1, 10p for every £10, doesn't seem much does it in isolation) is charged on a regular basis. Well at 1% overcharge (either the lower of SEL or pack price, or the lower of the selection of different prices for the same product in the shelf at the same time, or different labels) that makes £290m per year, that would wipe the smirk off the chief execs face.

Is there anyone who would disagee with 1% with the following criteria :

Lowest price of the following should be charged :

    SHELF LABEL
    PROMOTIONAL LABEL (if any)
LOWEST PACK PRICE (where several different packs prices are present, say for example, currently turkey is at 7.22kg but half are 7.22kg and half are £5.22kg, I'm pretty sure that the CPA would force a sale at the lowest advetised price for this pack ie £5.22kg).

Don't know how web would fit into it, say if customer ordered item for £X per kg and came at £Ykg, obviously this must happen all the time, as the stores can't be bothered to re-price any new offers anticipating customers to be happy to be overcharged, or not realise, as the web prices is the 'real price' as per the central database.
  • it would be great if rach1973 can allow us to print that letter from Tesco HQ to show if needs be....

I usually tell CS that... "Hello..I am member of a consumer price watch group.and some of my products have been overcharged". ........ indeedd.......prepared to say freelance journalist if needs be !!!
  • chicken drumsticks and lamb chops wrong. Just stopped crying through the experience:-(

Went to CS desk, lady disappeared off, came back and said would have to wait for a manager. A man and a woman arrived. I was told straight out by two managers that they would refund it 'this time' but if I did it again I would be banned from the store and stopped from taking items through the till . they said I was abusing the policy, as I had done it a couple of times before (true, 3 times over last 3 weeks) I said I shopped there 3-4 times a week (true) , they said that didn't matter, if it happened again.......I took their names, I said so maybe I should go to Trading Standards, they said, do that if you want, shrugged and walked off.

Phoned Head Office, in tears. Lady apologetic and said would call me back. She spoke to store manager. He said it was an 'ongoing situation' with me, and that I was 'deliberately seeking items that were wrong by a few pence and taking them to CS to get a refund and get the items free'. I denied this (still a bit upset) and said I had better things to do with my day than look at every item in the store. I said I was querying it because I was being careful with my money and checked items as I bought them. Ths store had told Head Office I was looking for 'silly mistakes'. I said, 'so, something wrong by nearly £1 a kg with a big sign in front of it is a silly mistake? and that their mistakes weren't my fault. She apologised, but said this was the stance with the store at the moment. She said the store manager had spoken to me about it - I said, possibly, the last time a manager was called and he authorised the refund (some duck breasts). I said that I had taken advice and would ring Trading Standards. She said that the store had already called Trading Standards and that they were 'aware of the situation'.

Very upset and shocked. Embarrassed and humiliated. Wish I could get even in some way, but I'm too scared to even go back in there now. Felt bullied and walked all over. Horrible horrible experience.
