  • I have said it once and I will say it yet again they are a DISGRACE. Blantant lying under-hand robbers, who have and are consistently stealing money from customers on a daily basis !

Lets take a serious example, bacon overcharged by 42p per pack. Thats 20% overcharge. Convert that into a typical shop say someone buys a couple in an £84 shop, an overcharge of just 84p that's 1%, that seems a minimum overcharge %, I reckon it would be much more than this given the evidence in the meat/diary & entertainment sections, (which are easy to spot) plus others that without detailed scrutiny are more difficult. If turnover is £30bn per year thats £300million, in overcharges, which would reduce profitability directly by that amount. NO WONDER EVERY LITTLE HELPS, every little misprice does £1 in £100 equates to sum large numbers when the bigger picture is viewed.

I feel for those who shop on the internet who are continually stitched up without recourse, other than to say no I'll not bother having the bacon if its 2.48 not 2.06 as it says there, that's if they notice of course.

Totally agree Mr Dastardly :T , though perhaps we shouldn't raise the profile too high or they may change the policy

MMMMM, the smell of my Tesco's Fresh chicken roasting in the oven is delightful, all the more so as it was a R&R , yummmmy :rotfl:

Bad experience in Bognor Tesco. Got the Pop CD, poster said £10.77, but charged £10.97. CS kept me waiting 30 mins then offered me 20p refund, I pointed out the poster and they said it didn't apply as SEL was difference to poster, I phoned the 0800 number and spoke woman I spoke to agreed with store, meanwhile CS rang internally to manager and produced refund. Then the 0800 woman spoke to CS and they said I couldn't have the refund I had just been given. As i had the money in my pocket i thought i better leave whilst the going was good. Then phoned the 0800 again when i got home, must have had about a 30 minute heated discussion, which ended with same result. Appartently the poster price is irrelevant, and the actual price was £10.97 and therefore i was not overcharged. He then went on to say the same would apply to any poster, so basically any price they advertise on a poster can be disregarded! I ended up saying they were losing a customer and he said goodbye!!!

    Any comments please!

TRADING STANDARDS - Breach of Consumer Protection Act 1987 S20 S21.

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader

Edit : what was the value of your refund in the end ?

Why are so many people seemingly suddenly having problems with Tesco's staff honouring the R&R Policy?

It seems that they are attempting to fob us off with refunding the difference that we have been overcharged.

I was standing next to their R&R Policy board in store this morning and even pointing it out didnt make any difference so why have it?

Maybe we should all make a point of complaining to Head Office about the stores that blatently do this.

Has anyone thought of making a book of this thread! It's Hilarious.
Mabye Tesco would put it on the shelves.
Anyone got a good title for it!

Tesco would put it on their shelves but the price on the SEL would be wrong :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Stick to your guns on the R&R. A price on a poster or SEL or any god damm thing, is indeed a price. Therefore if that is not the price you pay, then you have been overcharged!
  • I rang trading standards today about the Blackpool branch of Tesco as I was in there the other night and saw someone else being overcharged, the manager took an age to arrive so the customer had left by this point, the manager was happy he had left so he didn't have to do anything! He made no attempt to find out which item was overcharged so that the shelf label could be changed so further customers could be overcharged.

Trading standards said that there was nothing they could do unless they got complaints from people that had been overcharged, to which I pointed out that the "victims" of this probably won't realise they have been overcharged. I think the amount of misprices we have seen in the other thread show that there is a real problem at Tesco that needs to be addressed, if anyone else feels strongly about this then I would urge you to ring your local trading standards department:

http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/consumers/consumers.cfm (enter your postcode to get details of your local branch)

I know that it is nice to get free stuff from the misprices, but there must be a lot of people getting ripped off who don't realise and maybe now is the time to put that right

This is the correct action to take, if the store and HQ also fob you off. Lets get serious about giving these store mgrs and their hatchet men/women at CS, some sleepless nights. As Joel has previously mentioned a couple of weeks ago a referral to HQ is treated by the store with almost total nonchalence. ie HQ basically don't do anything, other than in very serious cases of gross misconduct. After all these errors half the time are caused by central mistakes (posters, offers, lack of training, insufficient staff levels to carry out duties effectively).

Sorry to hear about your problems in the Bognor Store, as it's my local one. I did get a refund on the Jem CD a few weeks ago, and that was a lower price on the CD poster It took 2 of them to check it out though. First CS came back and said she couldn't see any posters! I very slowly explained just how big this poster was - she then sent a young lad down to check it out. Luckily he could see it and I got my refund.

Had trouble last week with the bacon, as SEL had a pack size of 250g, and pack on shelf was 300g. CS said numbers did not match, and was therefore not the same product. Didn't want to make a scene, so just got a normal refund and let them keep their bacon. I did make a comment that it was unlikely for there to be two different pack sizes, and that it was very misleading for the customer. One CS agreed, saying she would have made the same mistake. Decided argument was best left for somerthing more worthwhile.

Hope this doesn't mean this particular store is going to give any hassle over R&R, as I get nervous enough anyway!!

unfortunately I suspect the majority of people on this board are just out for what they can get for free so the number of complaints will be minimal, Tesco will keep on overcharging on a load of stuff and refund a small percentage of that to the small amount of people "in the know", human greed is a wonderful thing isn't it...
  • I thought I was only the only Bognor MSEr, seems like there on to us!
