I get carers but I dont qualify for IS but I have found this information for you
If you apply successfully for Carer's Allowance, and you are on Income Support or income-based Job Seekers' Allowance, you should receive the Carer Premium automatically. If the Carer Premium is not added to your benefit within a couple of weeks of receiving the decision about Carer's Allowance, take the letter awarding benefit application to your local Social Security office and ask for Carer Premium to be paid.
If you get the Carer Premium and already receive Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit (Rate Rebate in Northern Ireland), tell the office dealing with your benefit(s) that you have been awarded Carer's Allowance or have an underlying entitlement to it. They will recalculate the benefit to take this into account.
I think this means you will get the £27.15 per week based on underlying entitlement for the Carers Allowance on top of your IS.
Dont forget to call the other places I mentioned in my last post as on top of the £27.15 you could get more money on your other benefits.0 -
hi i was wondering if i go onto carers allowance then will i still get free dentists and prescriptions or not?? as trying to work out whether i am better off on it or not0

do u work dawn?hi i was wondering if i go onto carers allowance then will i still get free dentists and prescriptions or not?? as trying to work out whether i am better off on it or not
i'm asking because if you don't then u will still receive some income support as well as carer's, then u would still get the free dentist, prescriptions etcenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
As long as you are still entitled to some income support (given the details you have given already you will be) you would still be entitled to free dental treatment etc.
The other issue this will change is when the law comes in that all single parents of children under 10, then under 7 must go onto JSA instead of Income Support and look for work, you wouldn't be required to as you would be a carer. One day I might be more organised...........

hi i rang the carers helpline and they said i would have to pay prescriptions and also pay for dental treatment too, so now i am unsure whether to go onto carers as dental treatment costs loads lol0

dawn ~ I dont think ths is correct.
If you get CTC (Not WTC though) & your income is less than roughly £15k you should stll get the little NHS tax credits exemption card.

IF you only claim Carers Allowance, if you're entitled to IS still then this wouldn't apply. You can also apply for expemption if on low income which you would be if only on Carers Allowance.hi i rang the carers helpline and they said i would have to pay prescriptions and also pay for dental treatment too, so now i am unsure whether to go onto carers as dental treatment costs loads lol
If you take all your current paperwork to your local CAB or Welfare Rights office they would be able to go through all this with you and save any further confusion. One day I might be more organised...........

i get CTC and IS and child benefit at moment, and also now we get DLA for my son! so my income has jumped up so much it is shocking lol so i am not sure what the score is with prescriptions and dentist fees and they did say today i wont get them paid as i probably wont get no IS once i change over to CA as the IS and CA will work out same money so it will cancel out my IS
i will now get

60 DLA (for son)
130 ctc
