Did you make sure you told CTC that you receive the DLA for your son and not you? Because they should add the disabled child element http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/index/ssa/benefit_information/a-z_of_benefits/child_tax_credit.htm

Give them a call back, tell them you believe you should be entitled to the 'Disabled Child Element'

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/TaxCreditsandChildBenefit/TaxCredits/DG_073939

It states on there what it is and why you should receive it
One day I might be more organised...........

think there is two rates for disabled children on the tax credits, first one is disability premium, think its middle rate care, then there is the severe disability premium for a child with higher rate care, i would ring the tax office back up and speak to someone different, i've had this before with the workers at tax office not all know what they are doing lol

What you will get is stated on the government website I posted, that's the law, yours will be no different.

hi wil there be much difference in the CTC that i am getting now, as i dont get how much we should get, the person on the phone said it will be bearly noticable the extra money i get, but when they wont tell you how much your entitled too then leaves me lost
  • Hi...I`m in a very similar situation to you....
I claim dla for my siter (under 16) and receive carers allowance. This does NOT affect my income support. You should receive carers allowance which is taken into consideration when getting income support...however you ARE entitled still to some income support.
Dont forget to let child tax credits know about your dla award as they will give you extra money for your son.

The disability element on CTC is £2540.40 for the year

This amount is then tapered down depending on your household income so nobody can tell you exactly what you are entitled to but you are entitled to this element if your son gets Middle rate care my daughter gets this level and I have taken this figure from my award notice. Call them straight away and get this added.

You will need to inform CTC if your claim for carers allowance is approved as this will affect the amount they pay you slightly. Do this as soon as you get the award notice.

Inform HB that your son gets DLA they will probably ask for a copy of the award as proof, but it could mean you get a bit more, there is something on my HB award under 'How much the law says you need to live on', there is an element 'Because you have a disabled child in your family'. This in turn affects the excess income which could increase your payment.

I think you may of missed out because when you contacted these people they thought you were the one getting DLA, they have managed to confuse you even more and you are missing out.
  • The Child Tax Credit (CTC) replaces financial help paid for children in the Income Support (IS) assessment. This has already happened for all new IS claims. Families who were getting IS before April 2004 had the choice of continuing to get amounts for their children included in it. But at some point after 2007 these families will automatically be moved onto CTC. When this happens only the adult amounts of IS will be paid. A separate CTC payment will be made for children.
Most parents will continue to receive IS at a reduced rate. However some families could find they no longer receive IS when amounts for their children are removed. The government expects that, as a result of moving onto CTC, most parents on IS will either be better off or they will see no change in their total weekly income. But a very small number could end up worse off.

I receive high rate care and mobility DLA for my daughter who is 6 and has down syndrome plus alot of other health problems i also receive carers allowance for myself which is £50.55 per week the carers allowance is taxable where as wftc and DLA are not, so as you are on IS you will loose the amount from your IS,HB etc that you have gained from carers allowance as they take off your taxable income so the £2628.60 per year will be taken away as it is classed as earnings also for you CTC or WFTC your amount will probably go down because your earnings go up. probably not very clear sorry
