Right ok, I am going to be honest, there is only one rate of Carers Allowance. This is not the 'care' part of DLA, you need to apply for that seperately. Sorry but I think it's just going to be even more confusing you continuing to ask questions on the thread, phone them back, get a full explanation then contact somewhere you can take all the paperwork and get them to go through it with you.

Basics of it - if you were entitled to £51 IS before, you'd be entitled to that PLUS the Carer's Premium, minus the Carers Allowance. So you'd still be entitled to Income Support.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

DLA is not taxable and is not counted as income for any benefits.

Please don't panic, someone has given you wrong information.

If that's what they told you they are wrong - it's your son who is getting the DLA, it's not your income so does not affect your benefits (and even if it was your DLA it will not reduce your other benefits - in fact, it would qualify you for the disability premium - if your child is now getting DLA you should qualify for the disabled child premium)

whoops sorry - crossed with lots of other posters - I type very slowly!

None of that is carers allowance, that is all just DLA, Carers Allowance needs to be claimed seperately. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CaringForSomeone/MoneyMatters/DG_10012547

(Hippygirl those additions I believe now go on the CTC with the disabled child premium hence why she needs to inform CTC)

my worry was being financially worse off through claiming, as he is 8 and i have never claimed for this before, but to be honest i never knew he was entitled, so rightfully my money should go up rather than down then??

think that person made me panic to think my income support stops because i will get carers allowance for my son

Those are the rates payable for DLA depending on whether the claimant (in this case your son) is on high/mid/low rate care or mobility.

You are not the claimant. You are the carer. Your son's DLA does not affect your benefits.

You may choose to claim carer's allowance for him - that is a separate claim and a separate issue.

You are obviously confused. You may wish to speak to the CAB or a welfare benefits adviser who will explain what you need to do now, and what it all means to you financially.

This is DLA. Your sister is right - you will get this in addition to your existing benefits. It is to help cover the additional costs e.g you may have to use your washing machine more often, buy special food, pay for occasional care.

right so i am starting to learn a little now lol...slowly but surely!! so that what i wrote is just how they build up the amount for DLA, so basically the 60 odd a week is all DLA rather than carers money

i did inform CTC and they said they will continue to pay depending how much income support take back off me
