Things we didn't use were: tie up bibs (absolutely rubbish as LO turns head and moves around whilst you TRY to tie it up), baby swimming carrier-like a sling sling but for swimming, tesco baby carrier/sling- too small and poor support when young.
Things we don't like are: anything VTECH as DS throws them on the floor off the high chair and they don't work afterwards! Also VTECH are rubbish replying to emails.
Every parent should get a baby swing! DS loved being rocked in it at full speed
If buying a pram/pushchair/travel system, always go along with all carers and test them out. Mothercare are the best at helping, especially the ones in retail parks as they allow you to test them for size in the car. They also do full demonstrations of how the put them up/down/accesories etc. I don't work for mothercare btw! Just v impressed by the lovely lady in Hayes Mothercare.0 -

You need to think how you will use it - depends a lot on lifesyle - will you walk from the door or always drive, will you use the bus etc
We are in the middle of nowhere so always drive and have found the most used buggy was our maclaren techno - absolutely great (for us!) - we've worn out 2.
We also have found that a cheap alurax three wheeler (new on ebay) was good - nice and simple but sturdy for country walks when they're getting too big for a sling.
We had a 2 seater buggy for a while which had one in front and one behind which we thought was probably better than side by side - difficult with doors
Also a really basic lightweight (almost toy level basic) has been great for travelling on holiday
As someone else said the only one we wouldn't buy again was our M&P travel system - one pushchair can't do everything. Or at least we never found it if such a thing exists.0 -
I had quite a lot left from when my daughter was born. But my husband (DS's dad) is teh manager of a family business which is a baby shop so anything we needed was all bought at cost price.
I think i got through maybe 5 or 6 pushchairs, the best i found was the quinny zapp, suitable from when baby can sit up, but we haven't used a pushchair but almost 2 years (DS will be 4 in July)
Nappy Wrapper - complete waste of time
Graco swing - absolute god send
Baby bath - has its moments but is bulky to store
Moses basket - can be useful for some but our son napped in his swing or bouncer
Top and tail - we used a normal bowl
Changing table - again, waste of time, just look pretty in the nursery lol
Steriliser - bought a microwave one for a £1 off a car boot - godsend
Highchair - again depends on individual and baby. My son preffered the bouncer chair
Babies really don't require that much stuff, its mainly scare tactics from people ie 'you must have this else you're a bad mother'
Best advice i can give, is get as much of the big stuff as you can from car boots, local papers, family, freecycle etc (except for cot mattresses). At least then if you never use it you can offer it on/sell it on and you haven't really lost anything apart from your storage space.0 -

We were lent a babybath and used it twice - much easier to use the kitchen sink with an old towel in the bottom (makes it softer and less slippy)
top tip from my midwife when DD was new - in the big rocker chair her head could roll form side to side, but you get an old thin towel and roll it up and make an arch shape with it, then put it from shoulder to shoulder or elbow to elbow. Beccaue the towel is tihn it keeps it can be moulded into shape easily. Very MSE:money:
My best item was a baby changer, it saved loads of time as everything could be kept in one place, so no need to cart a messy baby to the cupboard for more wipes.:p It had her babygros, nappies, wipes, cotton wool, socks, mitts, vests etc in it. It lived downstairs too, so no need to go upstairs to get her stuff.
It's still in use as my DD's book cupboard.
Pushchair was another good buy- £25 but so easy to take everywhere with you, and DD could push it when she started to walk but sit in it when she got tired. Also great for carting shopping/picnics/beach gear around in the bottom. We only paid £80 for her big pram, it was half price on the sale, the handle could be swung over so you could see baby, or so baby could see everyone else.
I didn't even know top and tail bowls existed! We just had an old tupperware bowl that we used.
what we didn't have and couldn't buy readily when we needed it - a mucous sucker. - yes, I know it's disgusting, but it would have helped clear out DD's snotty nose the first time she had a cold and wasn't big enough to blow her nose. I see them in poundland in a baby manicure kit now and remember that miserable weekend all those years ago...Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Just thought of another best buy (sorry I know this is meant to be worst buys!) - the Potette travel potty (http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000IVQPW8). We only started potty training our DD at Easter and this has proved invaluable when travelling. It goes with us everywhere, we used it in the middle of the woods on a walk this afternoon!
It's available in blue and pink, and I noticed Amazon even have a green one!
