Hi all,
I have a toddler and was just sorting out his baby stuff and the loft and found so much stuff that I never used but I guess felt that I NEEDED...damn that marketing
Anyway I thought those of us who have gone through that and wasted our cash could put a list together to show the bumps out there what they may not need:
I'll start:
1. baby bath - it was back breaking, sloshed everywhere, sink was much better
2. moses basket - slept in it a handful of times and then moved in bed with me! If you're unsure check out the benefits of co sleeping before you judge http://www.breastfeeding.com/reading_room/co_slepping.html
3. baby shoes - they can't walk and pull them off and loses them
4. endless matching little outfits - newborns are so fiddly to change and get messy quickly so no point also you want them to be as comfortable as possible. sleepsuits are the way forward
5. baby cleaning products, shampoos, lotions etc - midwife told me only to use plain water and olive oil to moisturise and it was fine.
6. buggy - wait until you've got your baby then you can try it out for real and know how much stuff you might be carrying around with you and see if it fits in the shopping basket!
7. steam steriliser - never used it and it cost £40
Try and get breastfeeding established if it's right for you. I was a bit unsure about BF until I actual had a go at. It shouldn't hurt and it's free. If you need to contact a free specialist to help you do. Self attachment is a great option for newborns and takes the stress out of getting it right for the mum as guess what the baby knows what to do...nature eh..amazing
Anyway over to you...what did you buy and never use?

Worst buys:
Baby bath on a stand - couln't be bothered carting the water through, just used the sink/big bath
Top and tail bowl - although my toddler stores his cas in it
Shoes - I must have about 10 pairs for DD and she never wears them. Socks as well, she just pulls them off to eat them.
Best buys:
My 'iCandy' buggy system - love it, just glides across the gound.
3 in 1 Rocker swing
Baby bouncer

I have no worst buys - everything cost very little second hand
I do hate all the outfits other people bought though! Esp my mum - £15 for a pair of trousers? Ridiculous waste of money.
Joseph hated the baby bouncer and the bumbo, now he dislikes his walker. I don't use the door bouncer much as it's hard to get him in and out, but it was worth just getting that first video.
I'm trying to think of something I actually bought in a shop... bath thermometer pointless.
Anyway, haven't we had threads like this before? Do a search for extensive poopooing of nappy wrappers(which is the only item I wish I had, that and a car/electric bottle warmer!!)
:wall:0 -
My worst buys were:
Nappy Wrapper - Havent used this at all
Bumbo seat - my baby could throw himself outta this
Baby electric swing - My second child hated this, but my first loved it!
Bottle/food warmer - Havent used this at all
Mamas and Papas bouncer chair - broke after 5 months!
Nursing chair and stool for nursery - Didnt use this once, still blooming sitting there!! lol
Baby socks - far too many god knows why!
Far too many clothes for newborn/0-3 spent a fortune and half went unworn!
Mamas an Papas Bath tidy - Havent used this at all!
My best buys were:
Moses basket
One of those rings that you can sit the baby in with their toys
Jumperoo - had hours of fun spent in this
Cot night show - musical thing for sleeptime which has patterns on ceiling - really calms Zane down and sends him to sleep
Walker - Absolutely loves this
Im sure there are plenty more!! xx0 -
Worst buys were...
Too many clothes, they do get through a lot but only wear them for 10-12 weeks and then it's onto the next size up!
Baby bath, pointless buy, much easier and safer I think to use normal bath with you in it too!
Top and tail bowl. We used water and cotton wool for bum changes etc for several weeks but just used a small plastic bowl.
Best buys
Grobags, mine are both wrigglers so kick covers off (even now at 4yo and 18mths!
Bouncy chair that could vibrate. If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0
