Also thoroughly research your pram/pushchair purchases. We had 3 until I found one that I really liked!
Top advice - we've been through 6 (4 kids I hasten to add) and though they've all been well used we could have chosen better I'm sure. Don't follow buggy fashion slavishly.
Otherwise only 2 unused items: breast pump and dummies
We found different children like different things for instance our youngest loves a bouncer and "exersaucer" but the others were much less keen.0 -
Didn't really have any worst buy's, however the best thing I ever bought was a sponge for the baby to lie on in the bath. That way the baby is not able to roll away and you have two hands to wash them etc with whilst not having to try and support them. It costs about £5 from Mothercare. Baby goes in your normal bath. Fantastic - only wish I had invented it!0

Just though of another great buy, although not directly for baby!
One of the electronic photo frames. We have all our photo's on it & it is on all day every day so we get to see photo's all the time rather than just when we get the albums out. Sometimes my eldest (who is 3 1/2 now) will just lie on the sofa looking at the photo's asking questions or remembering times!
Possibly worth asking for rather than getting yet more clothes or bits that you don't need (or asking for vouchers to put towards one)

Slightly off thread, but can I ask those posters who said that prams/pushchairs need to be reviewed thoroughly, could you give me some more info on this.
I'm going to be a Granny soon (July) and am going shopping with my son's partner next week to look at prams/travel systems. My son is in his twenties so a very long time since I needed to use a pram and my son's partner doesn't fully know what she needs/wants either.
Any help in this area would be much appreciated. Thanks.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

MS Chocaholic - best advice is try www.adtrader.co.uk , eba etc first, so much mony is wasted buying new when there are great second hand bargains
Best buys
Night gowns, second hand, yes I hav 2 boys but nothing is easier for changing nappies during the night especially when your grip is bad for those darn poppers
Reusable nappies saved me a fortune
Lots of flannels saved me a fortune in wipes etc
Second hand fold out changing table the boy who it was originally used for was 12, folded down small, godsend when I'd had 2 CSections, had sections to keep everything in. Also made a great bath stand.
Inflatable baby bath my sons loved it, folded small when not needed
Playpen/travel cot for keeping them safe when I was making dinner etc
Cot with movable base and sides so could use it from being tiny
Traditional large framed Silver Cross Pram (handed down to me) nothing quite like it for getting baby to sleep
Worst Buys
More disposable nappies than I need ended up giving them away
Dummies DSs didn't like them/use them
Every breast pump other than the Avent one wish I'd bought that first!
More clothes than they could wear in 3 months suppose DS2 had new things DS1 haddn't used
Baby bath seat which didn't stay upright, ever!
CCTV monitor made me a paranoid parentOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200

I loved the baby bath! I had one that sits on the top of the normal bath, so you can fill it from the bath taps and then tip the water into the bath afterwards.
I had a nappy wrapper when my boys were little, but the refils were expensive. Also if it was a heavily soiled nappy, when you pushed it into the nappy wrapper, the poo squirted out all over your hand
Was given too many fussy clothes with lots of fastenings, and expensive clothes. Much easier to keep them in babygro's and then cheap jogging bottoms and t-shirts. You don't care as much when cheap stuff gets stained from food, sick, poo etc, or the knees go when they are crawling. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Re buggies. Some things to think about are:
How high does the handle need to be? Try them out for comfort.
How easy is it to fold down?
How light is it to lift into a car or push up a hill?
Are the brakes easy to apply?
Is it an umbrella fold or bulky when folded?
Does it fit in your car? (If applicable.)
Would a 'travel system' with car seat be genuinely useful or would I only use it a couple of times?
Does the rain cover come with it or will it cost more?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Just to add to my previous post - i have bought very little, got everything from freecycle/gifts. But one thing I did buy that has proved invaluable is a sling. Means I can do things around the house if she won't settle on her own.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0

Hiya my worst buys were:
Highchair completely useless as we dont really have the space it was much easier to use the bouncy chair for weaning then a booster at the table once baby could seat unaided.
Baby bath - I never used it and just got in the bath with dd, OH did use it for about 3 months but I dont think he enjoyed it much, When ds came along we got a bath support so much better both hands free in the big bath.
Nappy wrapper, it didnt last the time dd was in nappies (2 years) and smelt so bad and refills were expensive. With ds we just put them straight in a nappy bag and in the bin outside.
Best buys:
Baby carrier - dd refused to go in a pram or pushchair for about 4 months and it leaves your hands free.
Baby swing for second child was great as got him off the floor when dd was learning to walk.0
