    Holy Crow B_L

I thought you were all settled and happy with your new lodgers then came across your thread again and I'm reading your updates (just seen the sick in the bath - lovely! :p )

What a palaver for you.....

I'll carry on reading til the end of the thread....
  • All cats look at people funny, it's an intrinsic part of cat-hood.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • Yes, he did pay his rent! He's a bit scared to leave the house, apparently, in case he gets lost or murdered... we'll have to work on that.

I took him into town and helped him buy a UK PAYG phone - he was shocked that it was only £4.84! And less impressed by the pink clamshell decorated with butterflies

I've had some personal good news this week - I came up with a proposal for my new boss which he was happy to accept... from 5th January, I will only be working 3 days a week (8 hours a day) and doing work that's at the heart of my talent and enjoyment. The pro-rata'd salary is still enough to keep me in the manner to which I've become accustomed, and I've still got another 4 days every week to fill! Happy Badger :)

To celebrate, I've given Lodger2 a rent drop, from £320 to £290. He was chuffed to bits and doled out a rare hug...

Yay B_L - like the sound of your job come 2009! :T

Also like the sound of your new lodger's PAYG phone - very nice! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So, how you going to fill the other 4 days a week then?

Well, he's been here 9 months now - long time for a lodger - so I've had no "gaps" to worry about... and I don't want him running off anywhere, the only lodger who's never caused me any worry! I really enjoy his friendship and his stability, so I hope the rent drop will:

    - Help to ease his personal credit crunch
    - Show my appreciation of him as a housemate
    - Encourage him to stay here rather than move on anywhere else

To be fair, as one of the lucky ones on a Tracker Rate Mortgage (and no collar), my monthly payments have dropped by a lot more than £30... ;) Yes there's a risk of them increasing again but I'm willing to take my chances.

I really don't know yet! But since the decision was made I've been sparking off ideas all over the place... Need a couple of weeks holiday over Christmas to sort it all out in my head. There are two sides to it:

    1) Practical:
Dejunk the house, arrange some better accommodation for the chickens and build some raised beds in the garden for proper fruit / veggie production. Refresh my website and restart freelancing. Probably do a bit of what PasturesNew does

    2) Er, less practical:
Design a pacifist board game; build my perfect partner and marry it; write a series of biographical short stories; compose a Eurovision entry and let the chickens loose on a canvas.

Er, except I've not bothered and as a consequence my site earnings have dropped like a stone... down from about £20k for doing nothing to about £6k.

I really should get round to sorting it all out ... I just never do :)
  • Wow that sounds fabby B-L (the pro rata'd job) I'm very jealous. I wish I could do that but no chance. My job wouldn't lend itself well to a short week and I can't afford anything less than maximum salary :(

I do harbour a small hope that I might be able to persuade them to let me start half an hour early every day and then leave at 2pm on one day to get a bulk study session in at some point. I'm going to pick my time very delicately though.
