Agreed. Although once he's realised that you're away and have been for a long time you might find that he's changed the locks to his home when you come back to what you think is yours. And treat you like a stranger and sit with his back to you until Doomsday. Could you go through the heartache of rejection?0

Sounds like you've got it all sorted. I moved away and left my cat with my parents, they called me one night to say he had cancer and I went down a few days later, he spent the night on my bed then died the next morning.
