I think B_L mentioned the new chap's a chef. Weekly payments in cash sound like his share of the tips jar.

    That's exactly what I thought. :D

B_L can you please give us a run down off your lodgers since the start of this whole thread. I've lost count of how many and who was when. Names, good or bad, length of stay etc.

    Okay, here we go:

    NoisyLodger
    March 08 - June 08
Played loud music to cover his sex noises - evicted.

    NiceSoFarLodger
    March 08 - September 09
Good strong relationship - got his rent reduced... moved out to get his own flat for his son to visit.

    SickInTheBathLodger
    September 08 - November 08
Kept trying to sleep with me! Moved out suddenly.

    MauritiusLodger
    December 08 - Febuary 09
Didn't flush the loo. Wanted his internet girlfriend to stay over, so moved into a rented flat

    AngelLodger
    February 09 - May 09
Monday-Friday lodger, very chatty, was only doing a short contract

    QuackersLodger
    May 09 - October 09
DSS - got very behind with rent, and also took over the cleaning duties for a while doing a dismal job. Eventually fell pregnant and moved out, then gradually repaid the outstanding rent.

    SleepyLodger
    October 09 - December 09
I don't even remember his real name or what he looked like :rotfl:Never saw or heard from him at home. He moved out for Christmas and expected to be able to move back in afterwards, but I'd already filled the room.

    ClumsyLodger
    January 10 - August 10
Quiet as a mouse, polite and sweet. Never a moment's trouble. Moved out to live with her boyfriend and now has a baby daughter with him.

    ChattyLodger
    August 10 - September 10
Talked a lot! And cleared the garden of weeds. Moved out to be closer to work.

    BigBruvLodger
    September 10 - July 11
Nice enough bloke, but increased his alcohol consumption and suddenly flipped out about having to live with Tufter. Left under mutual agreement.

    BigGunsLodger
    May 11 - January 12
Smoked indoors and bothered the neighbours - evicted with rent arrears

    JoannaLodger
    July 11 - present
Good as gold - not a single complaint ;)

Shall I pin it to the first post?

Admittedly, we know virtually nothing about the situation, but after reading about his wife telling him, "she couldn't bear for him to stay there one more night." It made me think she's either a cold sort, or feeling guilt for something, especially as all the chap's waiting on before he departs is a cheque clearing.
Hope he is always tipped well.

But I do take a chef as being paid weekly and in cash.

Thanks, never realised some of them were from so far back, well 2008 isn't that far back but you understand.
  • That proposed visit at the weekend to the chef's happy home where he had an allegedly amicable separation from his wife was a missed opportunity, I reckon. But if it was so bloody amicable why chuck him out now?

This paying-rent-weekly stuff could be Le Tronc: is it a fancy restaurant?

I'm getting an uneasy feeling about all this.

Had a quick scan of your lodger history - seems you end up with 50% that are disagreeable in some way, with around half of those quite poor indeed.

My pal had 3 female lodgers, all of them were clatty.

They were apparently quite groomed to look at, but were filthy around the house and their rooms - skidmarks in the loo, unwashed dishes, made a mess in the kitchen, didn't clean the bath after using it, didn't launder their bedding regularly, etc.

One of them smoked on the sly, hoarded dirty crockery and take-away containers in their knee deep belongings strewn over the floor and was a tumble drying maniac.

One racked up rent arrears, bullied the other lodger and then did a moonlight flit leaving their room filthy and debt collectors on her trail (also suspected of applying for credit in false names and opening her mail).

    The other was just dirty.
  • I'm assuming that the word "clatty" means slutty/slovenly. In my opinion nearly half of a random sample would be. That's been my experience, anyway. The men were grubby and the women olympic-standard untidy. Both sexes dislike washing their dishes or cleaning up after themselves equally.

True, but this is the only one out of all 12 to owe me money.

Hey, I just realised something - the 13th lodger could well be moving in on Friday 13th

Maybe this is a fairer representation (can you tell I get bored in London?):
