Hmmm does he not want to do a standing order as he is paid in cash?
Nudges my alert alarm when someone wants to do things the more difficult way.0 -

nicer? Nah, just a tad patronising.
You HAVE been available, he just couldn't be ar5edMortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

His references have checked out, and his money's sitting in the bank transfer system... the day it clears will be the day on his contract
He also asked if he could pay the rent weekly in cash - he said he could pay it to JoannaLodger in my absence, but I think we should set up an arrangement where he can pay it to the local bank (it's 150 yards down the road) and he sounded very happy with that idea.
Sob story I think. the bit in bold NOOOOOOO. Alarm bells should be ringing by now. 1 months rent up front and 1 months deposit.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

Isn't it funny how we all look at things differently.
I don't see any of what you see. In fact, my take on it is that weekly is better simply because any potential arrears will show quicker. I think he wants to pay weekly to avoid big monthly bills given his situation.
Time will tell, I guess.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Maybe he's had a joint account and he's stuffed until he can set things up in the short term, if he's talking about a long term arrangement I would be concerned.0

Last night I sat and read the first 20 pages of this thread (I've been reading on and off for years but not the really early stuff). This long dragged out moving out saga is very reminiscent of Noisy Lodger's departure.Make £2025 in 2025

My question is why does he now want to pay A. weekly B. cash
What is his job? Is he self employed? Weekly cash payments can lead all too quickly to A. I've not received any cash (if self employed) or not had time to get to the bank to get cash. B It'll be there Mon/Tues etc and warning bells are ringing if you intend to be travelling and assume the rent to be deposited into the bank rather than you needing to keep a weekly check. This is also not something another lodger takes on, with the surrounding circumstances with ex lodger she might well tire of babysitting your house. She may think twice about her position too.
and I know he has paid up, I know he has family problems but alarm bells are going off for me, his wife should justbepleased he is sorting himself out rather than can't stand him around if its 'amicable' split.
Sorry to be a wet blanket, just adding my thoughts.0 -
It sounds as he has been open and honest with B_L, chefs personal relationships tend to get very rocky due to the working hours.
I can't imagine it being much fun being stuck at home with two young children and your OH working unsociable hours.
However as a lodger I'd imagine a chef would be perfect as the landlady would have the house to herself in the evening.
Next door once had a French chef staying, all the neighbours (including myself) got really excited at the prospect of him joining in our BBQs etc, we never saw him the whole time he lived there0 -

Admittedly, we know virtually nothing about the situation, but after reading about his wife telling him, "she couldn't bear for him to stay there one more night." It made me think she's either a cold sort, or feeling guilt for something, especially as all the chap's waiting on before he departs is a cheque clearing.0
