I've been with boyf most of this week... first night of sleeping here alone and I've just been awoken by shouting and laughing (after the music stayed on to about 22:40).

Boyf met NiceSoFarLodger last night and said I shouldn't throw him out cos he's so lovely. We haven't therefore had the "ultimatum chat".

OK so last night wasn't funny, but I'm now fighting a virus and was too exhausted to go up there. Texting wasn't even a option since my phone's been dead for days...

Basically it was the same again, except with a lower volume on any music (i.e. I couldn't hear any, but I thought there may have been some on the edge of hearing in which case the neighbours would have noticed).

But the loud chatting and laughing in his bedroom went on and on... I was so relieved when it finally switched to sex noises - I didn't have the time on me but was probably 3am.

    :(

RIGHT! I have to go to work and the three of us in this house never seem to bump into each other, so I've composed the following email to send to both QuackersLodger and NiceSoFarLodger:
OK guys, we really need to sort up some house rules about noise in bedrooms. These of course apply equally to me and I expect to be pulled up if I break any!

    My suggestion:

    - No music whatsoever in bedrooms after10pm (unless on headphones of course!).

    - Music can continue in the basement to any hour, taking a common sense approach to days of the week and volume. We all have "special friends" now, so if people would prefer I can make a "do not disturb" or "knock before entering" sign that can be used after 10pm..? It's not like people tend to need the kitchen overnight!

    - Chatting in bedrooms should be muted after 10pm on a schoolnight - by midnight, nobody should be able to hear a peep. Remember how !!!!ed of we used to get by Lodger1's mobile phone? Talking or laughing at a normal volume is really, really disruptive.

    - There is an elderly man living next door at number 9 who's been there his whole life, raised his kids there... he's now very ill and has refused the invasive treatments offered to him. He therefore spends all his days and nights in bed, in pain, on the other side of NiceSoFarLodger's bedroom wall. He can hear everything. No rule here, just the need to take consideration.

I feel the need to set these because our very sweet neighbours keep complaining. And they complain to me. And I have to apologise and keep the peace... and I also have to assure them that any consistently noisy lodger will be evicted. But everyone living here is so lovely I don't want to kick anyone out!

So please do comment or propose changes to these / new rules - once we're all agreed, we can police each other. Not to become strict and uncomfortable, but just to respect each others' need for peace in the night times.

Face-to-face chat may be a good idea too :-)

    Cheers,
    Badger
