You can cancel straight away if you really want to. There is small print on the Comet T&C's that says if you cancel within 28 days they reserve the right to ask for the gift to be returned - but doubt very much they would!
Personally I'm going to stick with Onetel as the service I chose is free anyway and cheaper than BT.0 -
thanks a lot !!!!!MSE IS AN ADDICTION0

When I went into Comet, the salesman told me that I could just sign up there and then, get camera at the same time (they have them in stock), then cancel Onetel 10 days later, without them ever even completing the switch over. I asked if Comet would ask for the camera back and was told no. I signed up, got my free camera immediately (it comes with batteries, as well), then waited. I didn't even have to wait the 10 days, as BT refused the switch. I'm guessing it was refused because I'm already in the process of switching from Tesco to TalkTalk (due to swap over in two days). So, for 10 minutes work, I got a free camera with no commitment to anything.
Here's the camera (rebadged to IT Works, but exactly the same):

If i've already signed up with onetel can i take the account number into comet?
Ok i've got it now, I can cancel my account with onetel, then head into comet and sign up again, and get a free camera.
cool, let's hope the offer doesn't expire before i get to the shop!0 -
When i signed up earlier in the year for the free dvd player, i accidently gave them the wrong phone number (that or they entered it wrong), anyway, this led to BT refusing the switch with out me having to do anything. so got to keep the dvd player, and haven't heard anything since. i would imagine a similar thing would work with this.0
