Wear your lenses for the check, but take your specs with you (and any lens case if the others aren't daily disposables). I agree with with you that Ciba Dailies are more difficult to remove, but my conclusion over the years is that is because they fit so well!. Removing them will definitely get easier with practise. Enjoy.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

If you join Specsavers they give you eye checks/tests free of charge. I have been with them for 3 years.0

I've heard bad things in the past about Specsavers, an ex used to work there and said they were rubbish. I want my eyes tested so I can order a pair of glasses online from Glasses direct for £25! I havent had them tested for at least a couple of years which I know is bad, but I just keep putting it off! I've got a voucher for a free sight test with D&A hat I found in the Invitation catalogue which was given to my dad.. and he hasnt used any of the vouchers!
I just rung up my local D&A and asked them for a sight test, that was fine, then asked about contact lens check.. and they said it would be £40 for an initial consulation.
I couldn't believe it! I dont think i'll be doing that.. all I wanted was the free sight test.. and I need some more contact lenses as I have finally run out after ages.. I seem to wear my monthly ones for longer than a month! But the lenses for one eye always seem to last longer than the other and now i'm left with some for the left eye but none at all left for the right eye!! I'm about to order my lenses online.. for the first time.. but just thought my prescription might have changed as I haven't had them checked for a long time.. but £40!!
Online I can get my lenses for £27 for six months supply from Tesco Opticians.. in my local opticians (not D&A but just local one called Tudballs) they used to cost £75!
Big saving! Only thing is that on their website, delivery says it can take up to 2 weeks!! I need them asap!0 -
Hello!
I've been trying Contact Lenses for the last two weeks. Some different types from Specsavers, starting from their own brand ones and now I have some Acuvue Moist ones, but still found my eyes were a little sore during the day =(
They were in the right way as well...
But, where can I get cheap 30 day supply of them. Specsavers offering it for £34.... everywhere online is more expensive =(
Anyone have anywhere cheaper?0 -
If they are not comfortable, I'd suggest trying out a different brand, honestly. I've been wearing lenses for 20+ years, and am wearing toric ones now even. They're not supposed to make your eyes sore.
wrt good deals, I'm still getting mine from the States. I found that it was much cheaper to order them from their AND pay for shipping, than from anywhere I could find online in the UK. Not good for my carbon footprint perhaps, but 2-4 boxes of lenses are pretty small. Contacts America (cheesy, I know) is who I've used. $64 (so, about £32) for two boxes, delivered.Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0 -

How much postage do you pay per shipment if you don't mind me asking? I've just changed from monthly lenses to continues wear ones over Xmas. My previous optician D&A wanted to charge me £25p.m. I have now moved to Specsavers as they are only £15.50p.m. A massive £9.50 difference!!!
I did check a few UK based sellers like Tesco's for these lenses but couldn't find anything substantially cheaper than Specsavers. It didn't occur to me to check American sellers but this site seems even cheaper still providing their shipping is reasonable.0 -
Following on from my post above re. continues wear / Night & Day lenses. I have consulted three different opticians about the cleansing of these lenses.
The first two advised me to remove, rinse with a everyday solution and re-insert once a week whilst the third optician today told me "There's two schools of thought" he said. His opinion was that as long as there was no discomfort then it was better to keep them in for the full 30 days and just use comfort drops to cleanse, He said he thought rinsing them by hand would only expose them to more germs.
All opinions welcome.0 -
Hi
I'm trying New Day daily contacts for long sight. I get much better night vision with them than with the others I've used. The downside is that my reading vision is not so good, especially under electric lights. (I have one eye adjusted for distance and the other for reading).
Has anyone had this problem? I don't know whether the solution is just to increase the power of the reading lens or whether it's more complicated than that.
Thanks0 -
These are good lenses - and I am difficult and can't use anything but these and 1-day Acuvues. (surprisingly Acuvue Moist are not good for me.) Now they are £19.96 INCL post and packages for 2 months supply.
Thanks for pointing this out. I emailed Daysoft asking if it was a longterm offer, this reduction when buying 2 months, as I don't need lenses right now. They have advised it will only apply during February, so had better stock up at the end of the month.0 -

It might be worth you trying the Daysoft ones then. I recently had a CL check at Specsavers after quite a long break from wearing lenses, and was sent away with five free pairs to try. They were really painful in my eyes, but I thought this might have been because of the time-lapse since I'd worn them last. However, I then ordered some Daysoft ones and they've been fine, I can wear them for a good 12 hours with no soreness. They're £13.98 for a month's supply (32 lenses) and they are dispatched really quickly. Also as someone else has posted, at the moment they have an offer on in February of just under £20 for two months' supply. And you can return them if they aren't comfortable.
Gawd I sound like I work for them!! :rotfl:
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0
