You can but I find my eyes dry out.

Plus if the flight is more than about 2 hours I want to go to sleep anyway so I don't wear them.

been reading the forum and thought it was a good place to post for support and advice.

ive worn contacts for a while now.. like 10 years on and off.. i have had to start wearing them alot since i have passed driving test and my short sightedness stops me driving with glasses but i can with lenses.

i wear gas permable lenses and as you can imagine if my eyes are feeling off and my contacts are uncomfortable, it makes it difficult to drive.

i will be going to work soon (finishing degree in feb) and am worried about traveling if my eyes are playing up.. sometimes they go red and ache a little and i have to leave contacts out for the day. sometimes they feel fine (dont know they are there) for like 14 hrs +

two things really.. is anyone in a similar situation and can u offer you opinions on the subject and does anyone have advice on making them more confortable?

thanks alot for any posts, will be nice to know im not the only one...

  • you can buy eye drops that work with gas perm lenses that wash away the protien that builds up on the eye over the course of a day. Might help a bit. Other than that i'm not sure really.

  • Hi deloreandude, few questions...

How old are your current RGPs? if they are a few years old they could be scratched/worn from general wear & cleaning, book a contact lens check-up to see if you need them changing. The optician can also check the health of your eyes then to see if there is any other reason for the comfort problems.

Have you changed your cleaning solution/regeime recently? Do you always "rub" the lenses to clean them when you remove them or do you just store them in the disinfecting solution?

Have you ever tried soft lenses? They are generally more comfortable. Even if you have been told in the past that your prescription is not suitable for soft lenses it is worth checking again, as they are constantly increasing the parameters & prescription ranges of these lenses.

You say you can't drive with glasses, perhaps you need a new pair? If you wear RGPs you are best to leave them out on the day of a full sight test as if you take them out just before the test sometimes your eyes can take a while to "adjust" so the prescription can be variable and any glasses you buy may not be perfect.

    thanks for the reply

i have a consulation regularly through the hospital with a proper eye specialist for my contacts... ive had my current one about a year and he says there in great condition.

i have had new glasses but i have hospital appointments for my contacts because glasses werent able to provide the sight i need for driving. soft lenses were also not good enough, (even with hard lenses im on the borderline for driving).

as i said sometimes i can wear lenses for hours and hours, other times they are too much after a few hours.

for the forseable future this is the only solution for allowing me to drive it seems.. but, its still fustrating.

    Hello all,

I've been looking out for a cheap supplier of 1 Day Acuvue lenses for a while, since changing opticians a few months ago and loosing my steady three-monthly supply. Most on-line retailers seem to offer them at much the same price, however I came across http://www.discountlens.co.uk last week and the prices were about £20 cheaper than most for three months supply (I paid just £71.61 including postage for 90 pairs).

I've only really been looking at the prices for Acuvue lenses, but even a single months supply comes out at only £24, so it appears you don't need to buy in bulk to get low prices. There's also a flat fee of £2.71 for postage.

I thought it all sounded a bit too good so I decided not to post here until the lenses arrived, which they just have. Very well packaged, they appear to have come via Germany. I ordered on Monday around midday and they arrived by ParcelForce early (too early!) this morning.

They seem to be a Europe wide company (the different European versions of their web addresses are plastered all over the packaging), I don't know if it's a new company (the discountlens.co.uk domain was first registered in 2006) or whether they're an existing re-branded company. The registrant is based in Switzerland it seems.

Anyway, seems OK - maybe this'll help someone.

    Simon.

Got my first lot of Daysoft lenses today and I have to say they're much more comfortable than the five pairs of trial lenses I got from specsavers the other day. They really dried my eyes out, but these Daysoft ones are very comfortable so far - wouldn't know I was wearing them. Service was good too - ordered them Thursday evening and they arrived today (Saturday).

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I was just coming on here to say the same thing. I ordered my daysoft lenses on Wed night and they arrived yesterday. I wore them yesterday and another pair today and have been able to keep them in from getting up to going to bed without knowing they are there. The ones I was wearing before were the monthly ones you can sleep in but they were making my eyes sore after about 8 hours and I was having to take them out so a bit pointless really. The daysoft ones are £13.98 for a month and £39.99 for 3 months as opposed to £25 a month for specsavers dailies. I also got 4 free pairs to try these first and if not pleased can send the full packs for a refund, so cant lose really.

I've been using daysoft for over a year now and very happy with the savings I've made. I do find that I get a few more dodgy lenses than I used to with my old branded ones, but I've emailed them about it and they've been very helpful and given me extra lenses as compensation and also suggested I tried a slightly thicker lens type which is less prone to flaws. These seem to have done the trick.

I've also been for my annual contact lenses check up recently and he was very happy with the health of my eyes, so no worries there either.
