you should normally get 30 days wear out of them but doing it that way you'll probably get closer to 20
you just have to change them when they feel worn out and things start going a bit blurryHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Just curious about monthly lenses. I buy monthly Pro-clear Toric lenses but only wear them once a week - the rest of the time they're in a case with the Opti Express all-in-one solution but I'm just wondering if I still have to dispose of them after a month in this scenario?
Cheers
Im just back from the opticians with the exact same lenses and question. The rule of thumb is 30 wears preferably continuous BUT if like me only wear then once or twice a week, as long as you change the solution regularly and check on them in the case, you can keep them for around 2 months. I was originally told the 30 days wear had to be completed in no more then 6 weeks as they can dry out and lose their shape0 -
Many thanks - so 2 months, or around 10 uses should be a safe bet?0

That was what was explained to me by the contact lens adviser at specsavers. Mind Im still at the trial/fitting stage (fourth pair Im on) so perhaps an experienced wearer could stretch it even further?
Can I be nosy as ask why you only wear one day a week? Im finding it difficult to get a full weeks wear myself and am disappointed I cant get dailies. But I need the toric prescription. Seems like real life conspires against me wearing them, cant wear them night driving and need to have readers with me for close work. The other torics Ive tried have dried out in just two hours so have never yet had a full days wear.
Oh and trial pair number 5 are on order already
I do have to mention I can not fault the care I am receiving from specsavers. In total I have had about 5 hours worth of appointments with the lens advisers and still they are tweaking away to get me the best vision and fit. Im rang on my mobile the minute my new trials are in and they fit me in right away.0 -
Ah, I only wear them around once a week because I finally got around to buying a couple of pairs of nice glasses; I used to wear lenses whenever I was outside the house, but now restrict it to things like playing football, getting a haircut and going to gigs, that's pretty much it now.
I'm in the same position with torics btw, apparently my eyes are kind of a funny shape (although it's not visible? hmm) and normal lenses/dailies won't fit properly, or something.
Sorry to hear you're having problems, I've heard reports of people struggling to drive at night and the dazzle effect of headlights but I've never experienced it myself, what make of lenses are you using btw? I highly recommend these - http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/details186_115.html0 -
These are the ones I have now, no idea what the last ones were, they were much harder/thicker and night driving was a nightmare, I was sooooo stressed with the glare that it didnt help with the drying out of them and they just kept getting stuck on my lids
Ive not tried these ones for driving at all yet (just picked them up yesterday) so I shall give a try and report back.
Yep us poor astigmatism suffers have funny shaped eyes - they are flatter then they should be which is why fit is so awkward. These proclear are more curved then the last lenses I tried which means Im getting a wee tear between my eye and them which is causing the vision to be blurred - hence yet another prescription on order to counterbalance it.
Hairdressers is one of the reasons I wanted contacts. Im fed up of being sat there looking at a blur and agreeing its a nice cut and coming home to see its notI was hoping id be able to pluck my eyebrows myself with them but it looks like thats never going to happen as they cant get my close vision good enough

Ah yes, poor astigmatism was the term I was looking for, not 'weird shaped eyes'
It's quite awkard and like yourself I'm a bit disappointed I can't get daily lenses in this shape - surely there's a demand for it? Hairdressers with lenses is great, but not sure you'd ever be able to pluck your eyebrows with them, even if they fit fine since it'll probably make your eyes water a lot and generally be uncomfortable.
Good luck with the new lenses!0 -
my eyes are really bad right -14.50 left -11.50 have been told i can only have monthly ones, not many companies do them so strong, does anyone else have them this bad, and what do you wear.0

I have astigmatism and I have daily lenses from specsavers.
It would depend on your prescription though.
They are only made in certain prescriptions (otherwise the number of combinations gets silly).0 -
I am currently paying Specsavers £15 per month for my lensmail service. I basically get a 3 month supply every 3 months in the post, which totals £45.
After looking around, I have found that I can buy my contacts from tesco opticians for a meare £27! saving myself £18 every 3 months.
They have every contacts available so would reccomend them!0
