  • Can anyone recommend where to go for a cheap contact lens check up (I buy mine online so no discounts for getting them from the opticians). Boots have said £35, would rather pay less if possible. I live near Manchester and have all major opticians nearby

Rachel, I've heard people mention that the opticians at Asda are cheap for check-ups. I have a direct debit at Specsavers so mine are free and haven't had to use Asda. There are branches at Trafford Park and Eastlands so they may be worth giving a call to ask.

If you use monthly disposable lens do you have to stop using them after a month ?

Let us say if you use them for 60 hours a week which would be about 240 hours per month would it be OK or not to use them for a further 2 weeks taking the total use of them to about 360 hours for 6 weeks

I wear monthlies and tbh Im sure I wear for around 6 weeks instead of four because I never remember to make note of when i put them in first

They do start to get a tad uncomfortable - thats when i remember to open a new pair usually

Varies as to what time Im leaving the house at.

If Im staying home I wouldnt bother to put them in, if Im working from 6pm then I guess 6- 8 hours. If I have had them in from early morn then Id say around 12 to 14 hours max

Another vote here for https://www.daysoftcontactlenses.com - my first order arrived today and they're by far the cheapest for daily disposables.

Ordering was hassle-free, unlike some other online retailers I've had problems with!

I've been buying daily lenses from www.daysoftcontactlenses.com for a few months now and have been really pleased with them and at £4.99 for a box of 32 lenses they are the cheapest I have ever found.

i've been using Daysoft for about 18 months - never had a problem, and the lenses are very comfortable!

Hi guys, I would recommend getting a package from one of the opticians (I pay £15 a month for my contacts to Specsavers). This will usually include after care.

If you are wearing contact lenses, you'll need to have your eyes checked every 6 months to a year in case they are damaging your cornea or if a certain type becomes unsuitable for you. This is especially important if you wear lenses every day.

Also, fitting and getting the right power (contact lenses will have a different power from your glasses as the power changes with distance to the eye) is something that you should get done by an expert.

I have glasses from about a year ago (when iwas 18) that have a prescription for short sighted (text far away is my main problem) quite a basic common type of glasses.

However my glasses are un comfy as basically i have a big head and even the biggest glasses specsavers do have to be bent etc which is crap.

So decided i wanted to try contact lenses.

Does anyone know if there isn't any student deals or nhs deals for 19 year old student to get cheaper contact lenses? I was given a leaflet by specsavers (at freebie fair for uni) about discount but cannot find it.

    So any ideas?
