I'm currently taking the free contact lens lessons in Specsavers (it's not going well, but I think that's just me) and I have to say they've been great. There's no way I could have bought online and just went ahead and tried lenses.
If you haven't tried them before definately go to the opticians0 -
I agree with what the others are saying, you really need to go to the opticians first. A lot of them offer a free trial so you have nothing to loose. It does depend on your individual prescription so don't assume the £9 or less stated on adverts is true for everyone. I found that mine cost £38 per month because contacts for an astigmatism are more costly. They did have some slightly cheaper but I had a bad reaction to them.0

Hi, I too wear disposables and for years used D & A paying £35 for 30 pairs of Bausch and Lomb lenses which I personally have found to be more comfortable than the Focus Dailies or 1 Day Acuvue, but when they increased the price and I too thought hang on I must be able to get them cheaper so now I use Tescos Opticians and pay £18 for 30 Pairs of the same Bausch and Lomb ones.
You get the lense checks etc all FOC too I've found them to be pretty hot on keeping up to date with aftercare and tests and I just give them a call they order how ever many months I want and I pick them up when I do my shopping a few days later when they txt/call to say they are in, and you get club card points on them too.
Hope this helps0 -
Hi guys
I just ordered my contacts from http://www.eurolens.co.uk/
I wear montlies, they are much cheaper than dailies, do not understand advantage of dailies unless you are travelling and don't want to mess with soaking lenses overnight while sleeping in tent or something:D
Using contacts 12 years now.
As well it was proven that most dailies are the same as monthly lenses, so why throw them away?Best wins ever:
2012: Holiday to LA for 2 adults +2 kids for 4 days
2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand0 -
Hi, please please visit an optician first to find a brand that are comfortable for you and that can advise you on hygiene etc. Your eyes are precious things and it is very important you look after them.
I was a daily contact lens wearer for many years but now cannot wear them often because the lack of oxygen my eyes received through wearing them so much has meant enlarged blood vessels in my eyes which is non-reversible.
With sensible use you can wear them fine. Once you're happy with a brand then of course start Money Saving!:D

I've done it if I've worn my glasses in the day and worn lenses for a night out, it seemed a waste to throw them away after 4 hours.
Now on monthly disposables from specsavers £10 & solutions with the option of cancelling payments if I've got too many lenses - I don't wear them every day so tend to change them every 5-6 weeks.0 -
Daily disposables don't have a licence to be worn more than once, it will say this on the box or, in the case of Johnson and Johnson disposables, on the instruction leaflet you get with your supply.
You can certainly store dailies overnight and wear them again but if you do you have no legal recourse against the manufacturer (or your optician who fitted them) if anything does go wrong. Contact lenses are a prescription only item for a reason, why gamble your vision for the sake of saving a few quid? If your lenses are too expensive shop around or ask to be refitted with cheaper lenses!0 -
I need to get a new contact lens prescription, haven't had one for about 2 years, but I get my lenses from Daysoft online, so I just want the cheapest 'standalone' contact lens assessment/checkup.
I notice D&A are doing this offer:
http://www.danda.co.uk/freeclandass-sept2010/
Could I take that, then say 'no thanks, but I'll have the prescription please' or is there some obligation to take their lense packages after?
If anyone has any other ideas...?
Surprised there's not a thread on this already, the number of people here who buy lenses online.
Its not a problem for me to get a normal eye test at the same time if they want me to, because I'm exempt from paying (for the next month anyway!).0 -
Most places wont give a free contact lens assessment if the patient doesn't buy contacts from them. Opticians are under no obligation to give a patient their prescription awayfrom an assessment that the patient didn't payfor.0
