Hi guys, I've been with D&A since the age of 16, when I first started wearing contact lenses (although my mum paid for them then!). They recently put their prices up to £20.50 per month - this is for two pairs of contacts (one pair for two weeks) and a bottle of solution. I often build up the solution over the first half of the year so usually change it to lenses only, which brings the subscription down by about £5.

My brother told me he only pays £10 p/m for his lenses and solution - he has one pair per month. I think they are slightly poorer quality than mine - he was offered the two-weekly better quality ones for £13 p/m but chose to stay with his current subscription.

Either way though, if I switched this would represent a massive saving for me, so I am seriously thinking of changing. Like some other users, I prefer to go with a high street optician as I feel better leaving something as important as my eyesight in the hands of the experts (for peace of mind).

Before I switch, I'd be grateful for any opinions/feedback on Specsavers or any other cheaper options - without sacrificing the quality.

    Many thanks!
I was with specsavers a while ago for a year or so and found it very good. :) I use daysoft dailies now because they're the same price as specsavers monthlies.

AMC1979 I use dailies from specsavers and have always found them very professional. Their prices are comparable with online suppliers (except daysoft), particularly when you consider all follow-up and check-ups are included.

Thanks guys, that's very helpful. I need to give Specsavers a call and sort it out. £20.50 a month is just too expensive for me!

I'm near sighted (is that right? I can see perfectly close up but I need glasses to watch telly, drive & recognise people on the other side of the pub :D)

Anyway - I'm fed up of taking my glasses with me when we go out as I have to keep taking them on & off because if I'm talking to someone close up they're blurry with my glasses on.

    Could I wear contact lenses?

You can get varifocal lenses as well as varifocal glasses.

They won't be the cheapest lenses

    Lol that's about right.

I know people struggle with varifocal glasses - is it the same with lenses do you know? Would I be able to 'try' them first?

There's no need to struggle with varifocals. I took to them like a duck to water. If you get the correct prescription it takes a couple if hours to get used to the glasses

You get trials of all lenses Your prescription takes time to fine tune when you move away from standard lenses. I don't wear varifocial conracts because my astigmatism won't allow. The lenses I wear are for astigmatism and I wear one eye short and one eye long and it took around 8 different attempts to get lenses that worked for me

All free at Specsavers as long as you agree to order from them
  • Hi guys,

Just a quick update on my posts (see middle of previous page).

Contact lenses + Solutions arrived from ASDA really quickly.

I've been wearing contacts, daily for over 10 years now. This year I will be wearing them a few days a week . Therefore a minimum 6 months supply will last me a year and all for under £60 with re-badged premium solution.

    Very, very pleased :T

Can't belive I was spending £25 a month for these.

Of course, I will be poppin into opticians to get eye test every year, as usual.

  • Hi there I am thinking about signing up to the boots contact lens scheme for monthly lenses. I have astigmatism and am thinking about going for the air optix as I am really getting on with them I tried others but they made my eyes itch.

I know people will probably say go online for them but as the checks are included I will go with them also the optician there is brilliant he has got my prescription spot on no headaches, whereas I have been other places and they have got it wrong. I was thinking about getting the odd box of dailies for when I go swimming wearing the monthlies the rest of the time with the odd break as I know you are supposed to this. Is there any where online where I can get a box of each eye of dailies for astigmatism without buying large amounts. Thanks in advance sorry for the long post.
