Woooo I'm finally going to have contact lenses!

I've been wanting to have contacts for years (basically when I first started to wear glasses), but was always put off by putting them in/taking them out and also the price.

My friends would also rub it in that they had contacts, which made me sad that I didn't have them, but I still didn't get them because I couldn't afford it, being self-employed.

And then I realised about the contact lens trials in many opticians, and my sister, dad and I are all going to try it. How nice will it be to be able to wear proper sunglasses instead of prescription ones, and having to keep switching between glasses all the time (especially my dad, who seems to have about 20 pairs!)

Went to Specsavers yesterday and met a friend of my parents who works there, she helped us out with all our questions. So we've made appointments to try it out! Found out about the prices of monthly disposables and was very surprised at how 'cheap' it is now, too.
  • HiI want to get contact lens for myself and I want to know few details about how to select the lens and which is the best brand I read that Bausch & Lomb is best contact lens in the market. I am very confused selecting a contact lens so can you help me with your suggestion please.
  • Hiya, I think your best bet would be to go to an opticians, like Specsavers or D&A, and ask for their advice, as their own brands can be from standard quality to premium - therefore saving you some money but you still get great quality lenses. Sometimes you can pay more for a brand than the actual product.

Hope this helps you a bit!

P.S. I notice this is your first post on MoneySavingExpert - welcome to the community!

Its not so much that you choose your lens, rather your prescription does

Your optician will do their best to find a lens that best fits your eye and suits your need - regardless of who makes them

    Hello,

I have an appointment with Specsavers for a new pair of rigid gas permeable contact lenses. As far as I know their RGP lenses are from eyetech / Europerm.

Has anybody ever heard of them? Are their contact lenses any good?
  • Contact Lens Insurance??

I have just bought a new pair of varifocal gp contact lenses from Specsavers which cost me £240.

Does anybody know of a contact lens insurance policy? Specsavers say they haven't done one for years

There's no need to struggle with varifocals. I took to them like a duck to water. If you get the correct prescription it takes a couple if hours to get used to the glasses

You get trials of all lenses Your prescription takes time to fine tune when you move away from standard lenses. I don't wear varifocial conracts because my astigmatism won't allow. The lenses I wear are for astigmatism and I wear one eye short and one eye long and it took around 8 different attempts to get lenses that worked for me

All free at Specsavers as long as you agree to order from them

I have varifocal contact lenses (for the first time in 25 years of contact lens wearing). I have really bad astigmatism and the lenses are just fine

I have both lenses as varifocal with no problems
  • What are people's opinion on Focus Dailies All Day Comfort contact lenses? I have been using 1-Day Acuvue Moist lenses through contact lens by post, paying £39 for 30 pairs.

The only problem is, the base curve and diameter are slightly different, dont know how much difference it will make.

I could do with trying just a few pairs first as I only use about 10 pairs a month.

Can anyone suggest a good website?

    Thanks

I don't understand how varifocal contact lenses work. Do you have to put them in a certain way around?
