I completed an assessment with Boots which found I had mild astigmatism. The lady gave me a few pairs of daily toric lenses and being concerned with the cost, I asked to try normal lenses too.

The normal lenses give me approx 95% clarity and wearing them all day does not cause any problems whatsoever. I was just wondering, would wearing these lenses instead of toric ones cause me problems in the long run or cause my eyesight to deteriorate?

I think you need to talk to the optometrist who has examined your eyes. S/he is in the best position to advise you.

dongotti - im amazed they gave u basic ones, coz if u have astigmatism u need the correct contacts due to the shape of ur eye. u cant put a price on ur eye sight! and contacts can seriously damage ur eyes if not right. if its too expensive go back to glasses, or buy the right toric ones off the net and pay for any aftercare separately. also astigmatism and go either way as u age aswell.

maybe try specsavers monthly scheme (might be cheaper than boots). their astigmatism lenses are £18 (with solutions) for monthlies.

Hope this isn't too late for your appt 2moro! There are now lots of progressive / multifocal lenses to choose from (though still only one daily disposable)

What is the daily disposable multi-focal called , please? They would be handy for me to use when I'm at work.

I was told when I started with AirOptix Multifocal (L +1 R + 0.5 BC 8.6 DIA 14.2 ) last October at Boots that only 30-day were available. I have all but abandoned them and wasted quite a lot of money due to the annual contract.

Don't like the cleaning faff and only need to wear them 5 days a week. I find them easy to drop and lose and developed dry eye and blepharitis which has taken me a couple of months to clear up after stopping wearing the lenses.

I have lost confidence in them/my ability to maintain the pernickity standard of hygiene required, but would be interested in a daily, which would be more flexible/cost effective for me.

    Thanks.

Dont get me wrong but should you even be thinking of lenses if you thing basic hygiene is pernictiky?

To clean lenses, you wash and dry your hands, remove one lens at a time, cover in solution, swirl around and rub for around a minute and put in case with solution till needed again

Hardly rocket science or hard work ????

**Deep breath, smile sweetly** ........of course I did all this.

I'm also sure most daily lens wearers feel the same as me.

By the way, do you know the name of the daily multifocal lens as per my original question?

Aboslutely no idea on what lenses you are asking after. However as a lens wearer who also has been having problems with the dry eyes and lenses sticking Ive had great success with the 30 day continuous wear Air-optrex

However I still have to remove them daily as i still find they dry out as well - as did every daily I trialed as well

Because I dont wear them continuously I can make a pair last two months ( with the two minute clean regime) which has been ok;d by my optician and means I dont need to go on the monthly DD scheme so loved by opticians
  • The only daily disposable multifocal currently available is Focus Dailies Progressive - they are around £1.60 per day. Another option is to get sleep in lenses like PureVision multifocal which is licenced for up to 30 nights / days continuous wear. Air Optix only has a six days licence. But keep talking to your optician as new lenses come out all the time.

I only require reading glasses, my distance vison is fine without glasses. I only actually use the lenses for work, where I am constantly taking my reading glasses on and off in in a quite busy pressured environment. The lenses are very helpful in speeding things up for me! So 8 hours a day 5/6 days a week total absolute max.

If I'm reading etc for leisure, prefer to wear my reading glasses anyway.

Thanks for your help.............am going to optician soon anyway will ask.
