How much does a contact lens assessment cost at Specsavers??? Or is it free once you decide to get them?

my younger sister had a similar prescription and started wearing contacts at primary school, around age 9/10. it depends on your optician though so maybe ask to see one you get on well with or the manager.

FYI a trial was undertaken a few years back on contacts for children that can halt or at least slow down the extent of needing glasses, by anglia ruskin uni in cambridge, i think the optician in charge was dr o'leary. Not sure if the results have been published or if it was 100% successful but it might help somebody out there? HTH

Its free as long as you go ahead and buy from them or they decide contacts are not for you

I understood the test and initial 5 pairs were free, but with no obligation or charge if you decided not to go ahead?

Hi peeps, I am looking to buy some coloured contact lenses on-line, can anyone recommend which ones and who to buy from?

I will need opaques as my eyes are different colours!

In the UK you can't legally buy contacts online without a prescription from an optician this applies even if the contacts don't have a prescription in them and are for cosmetic use only. Any UK company that supplies lenses without asking for your opticians details is breaking the law and you're more than likely to end up with a counterfeit product that can lead to complications such as eye infections some of which can be very serious.

I was involved in the treatment of a patient before who was supplied with coloured lenses from a shop (not an opticians) and the lenses were in unneutralised peroxide, she had chemical burns in her eye.

The sites I've looked at you can put your prescription in, I know what mine is. I have only just had my check up.

Yes but your prescription will be for a certain brand of lens and the online site can only sell you the lenses you've been prescribed, they can't just choose a different lens that you want. You're best going back to your optician and asking to be fitted with coloured lenses, they can do this with the free trial ones (they only come in plano and most have demo or trial written on them) so that the optician can check the fit and you can see the colour in your eye before you shell out for them. I find that ciba freshlook colourblends work best in my dark eyes, can't get away with the blue ones but the greens, greys and browns look really good.

I was with Vision Express a few years ago and had coloured contact lenses with them - you could try there maybe?
