Otherwise you can wear your glasses with normal goggles over them, but I'm not sure how comfortable that is!

As for the gym, is the problem that they're rattling around while you're exercising? (I'm dreadful, have never been to the gym so have no idea what it's like!) You can get them tightened so they fit better to your head, but if it were me I think I'd just take them off and put up with the blurry vision, assuming you can cope without them for a while.

You can't do glasses with goggles - I have tried and whilst I have a very high embarassment threshold for stuff like this I looked ridiculous even by my standards :D Which is not to say I wouldn't still have done it but it didn't work either

My gym problem is steaminess :) not sure if that's what the OP was talking about...

Oh and prescription sunglasses are great but this isn't a good time of year to buy them. I tried at the start of Feb and they told me to come back when the new ranges were in towards April time

I'm just vain - and I know it!!! :rotfl:

Whilst I do like my glasses, I much prefer how I look without them and I just find life easier without them. I suppose I like the convenience really. It's been just fine all these years and now it's starting to get irritating and I know it's going to get worse!

At the moment I'm coping ok, but I do find myself getting more headaches and wonder if it's because my eyes are getting used to not wearing my contacts?! I don't even know if I'm making sense lol - probably not. I'm going to try to wear my contacts out of work more and see how that goes.

I don't swim a lot myself but do take my 3yr old dd, on holiday etc, and don't think anything of it when I've got my contacts in. I go to the gym, spinning classes and other classes quite a lot. I don't think I've ever worn my glasses! I'm worried that I'll be shoving them back up my nose all the time.

I'll have to have a look for some prescription sunnies I think. Dh mentioned the lenses that darken (can't think what the name is now), but my parents have them..........!!!!:eek: Hmmmm maybe I'm having a bit of a mid-life crisis :rotfl::rotfl:

My DD is 12 and wants to wear contact lenses asap but is being told that she must wait till she is 16 and also that she might not be able to wear them because her prescription is quite high, +5.25 in one eye and +3.5 in the other.
Does anyone know if this is definately the case?
    Thanks.

I would agree they're unlikely to be suitable until she's at least 16!

Not sure about the prescription - mine's mediocre but with astigmatism (-1.25/-1.5)

I wear +5.25 in one and +5.5 in the other so I don't see why your daughter couldn't! They're expensive lenses either - £10 pm Specsaver monthly disposables.

    On another note:
Does anyone have any experience of "vari-focal" lenses?? I've always been short sighted (see above), but now I'm starting to have problems with close work and was wondering if there is such a thing??

thanks claireac but i thought a plus presciption meant you were longsighted?
Thats why my DD was told that she may not be able to wear contacts for such a high prescription.

Does anyone know what the Specsavers Star Price daily contact lens is before it branded to their own make???

If it's the £16 dailies you are talking about, they are Ciba Focus dailies.
They don't keep them instore any more so if you want a trial they will order you 5 pairs for free (these come in their usual branding so you can see exactly what they are)

    It's only a game

I had a friend who had a trial of one lens distance and one lens close up prescription. She couldn't get used to them, but some people seem to - personally I think that would be horrible to use. I've never heard of varifocal contacts though.

I've heard of that too, but I've found some varifocal lenses:

I just need to get into my optician and see what they say. I wasn't impressed though, because on the info on that website it says it's common in people over 45 but I'm 39!:eek: Ok 40 this year......but just adding to my age paranoia :rotfl:
