Using lenses other than what they are designed for can seriously damage the health of your eyes!

I personally wouldn't. I wear Cibavision daily disposables, which are really comfortable to wear, but when I have (on the very rare occasion) forgotten to take them out, I have woken up in the middle of the night with really itchy eyes.
You can buy weekly, fortnightly, or monthly disposables, which would be better. For money saving purposes, you would be better to buy a pair of glasses for days you wanted to be economical.0 -
Legally Suki is quite correct. Unfortunately, there are plenty of sites out there who will quite happily flout the rules without any comeback.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Well if the OP can decide what her script is without getting one from an optician - I guess shes welcome to go try buy lenses and practice at home but I cant see any optician handing a script over until she can show that shes confident putting them in and out
Op, I too wanted lenses for the same thing - a few hours here and there so I waited till specsavers done a free trial offer and went then. The whole thing is free whilst trying. If you get a script that suits and you decide to buy from Specsavers - the trial will still be free. If you ask for the script and dont buy - they will then charge for the trial, which is fair enough
Unfortunately I never got a script that suited so had to resign myself to glasses0 -
I definitely wouldn't order them online. You need to be fitted properly, taught how to put them in and then the health of the eye needs to be monitored annually. You can really mess up your eyes if you don't do it properly.
I only use my contacts for social occasions as I have dry eyes. I pay about £10 a month for 10 pairs and get my annual contact lens check free. I am with D&A and you get half price off glasses if you are a member of their contact lens by post scheme. I need expensive specialist lenses in my glasses and I have saved soooo much money thanks to the half price bonus.0 -
I'd stick with Specsavers. I'm on their direct debit contact lens scheme - get monthly lenses, solution and case - they come in a pack straight through your letterbox every three months and are only £10 a month. Also as I am a direct debit customer, I get free lens check ups and half price discount on designer glasses, I think it is half price on other glasses too.
I started on that scheme but my lenses was costing me £13 and came in a big chunky box that wouldnt fin through my letterbox and half the time due to my shifts i was at work and then had to mess about trying to arrange delivery or collect them.
I spent the first 3 months with them and then after I had my eyes checked approx 3 months later I changed back to daysoft. personaly I dont like specsavers, I mean it is odd that they got my contact lense prescription correct but not my glasses
I use daysoft all the time but i do make sure that i have my eyes tested every 2 years and then continue with daysoft which i find are great.
I get free postage and the price is included in the monthly cost and it fits through my letterbox as it is so slim and they are just the same as the big brands. I do reccomend that you have a day or two not wearing lenses as reccommended by my optician to let the eyes regain their moisture but that depends on what type of lenses you are wearing0 -
Bare in mind that when you are dealing with specsavers, you are dealing with individual franchises, not a global company per se. There is convention and uniformity to a degree but ultimately your experience is based on how good the owner/optom of the store/franchise is, and how clued up his or her staff are. Re the law and not being able to supply you with lenses, it current;y stands at 12 months. Nothing less. If you are on a direct debit scheme with SS and you don't go in store and have a lens check they will most likely re-direct your lensmail to their store and ring you, or write to you to inform you that you can't have them until you have gone in for a lens check.DMP mutual support thread member: 358
At the start of a long path, but at least I'm on a path to somewhere!

I've been using daily disposable contact lenses since 2002. I've always had the Acuvue ones which I got on well with. When I went to order them last month the optician told me they'de stopped doing this one and have replaced it with Acuvue Moist. Strangely, these new lenses dry out my eye something terrible! Just can't use these ones at all.
They then gave me Focus Dailies all day comfort which I hate!!! They are so thick!
Can anyone reccommend a lenses that is similiar to the original Acuvue one?

I get monthly disposables from Specsavers and on my last pair, last time I wore them was at a Xmas party where i got home V drunk. Was just about to put them in and notice 1 is missing :rolleyes:
I'm not due out new ones until January and I am NOT wearing my specs on New Years, and I doubt I can get into Specsavers before then.
I am going to a Tesco tonight, that has an opticians, will they let me buy 1 monthly contact lens for my right eye? I know my prescription, but I don't want the faff of THEM having to check my eyes before giving me the lens!
Anyone know?0
