    i work for specsavers!

if tesco work the same as us, they wont let you buy a single lens. they might do though, you never know. specs will give them your prescription over the phone as long as you are there to confirm who you are.

give specs store a ring, we send out trial lenses as replacements for lensmail customers through the post, its just solutions we dont send cos they're so heavy!

Actually, I just phoned them up and they said if I go in tomorrow they'll sort me out with new lens and check my eyes whilst I'm there. The reason I didn't want to go in the first place is because the buses are hit and miss right now, or cancelled completely.

Just need to set off at 8 for the app to walk it :rotfl:

    Cheers Em :D

Ive got totally bad eyes, -4.5 in one eye and -5 in the other, and the -5 is a bit blurry, think it needs to be stronger!

Ah we have the ice too, loads of accidents though! I live near the main road so all I've heard in the past 2 days is loads of sirens.

Haha yep, fingers crossed I make the app!

Emlou, sorry to hijack Buttonmoons thread but I wondered if you could tell me if I can get disposoable lenses or not?
I used to wear gas permaeable but gave them up 15 yrs ago when y son kept opening the container, drinking the fluid and swallowing or biting the lens in the process! Ive worn specs sinc. I need toric lense for astigmatism I think but a friend said they dont do those in disp. only in hard lenses. Not so comfy and conveient as I dont really want to wear them all the time.]
    Apologogies again Buttonmoom!

  • Artytarty - yes they do do disposable toric lenses - so much handier than having to clean and store for occasional users.

WoW1 Thanks! do all dispensing optometrists do them?
I'm gettting quite excitied at the prospect of being spec free in 2010!
Mind you, I'll also be 50 in the same year, so amybe its too late to bothr! I sometimes think glasses can help to hide lines around the eyes, but they can also be aging. I need to wear them all time so i have a light rimless bendy leg spec. Silhouette I think its called.

Are they monthly or daily disposables?

yes you can get astigmatism lenses, they are called toric lenses, but daily disposable ones dont work out very cheap so you will probably want to get monthly lenses if you are going to want to wear them more than a couple of times a week, or save the daily ones for special occasions! best thing to do is make an appointment, i dont know what the others charge for contacts cos they arent really my area of expertise, but i know specsavers will do a free contact lens trial so you can see if you get on with them for free, and there is no obligation to sign up for lensmail or buy lenses from them after :)

daysoft sounds cheap how do you know what you are ordering though
also can you collect your prescription from your old opticians and take it to say specsavers and they give you a free contact lense trial cause at the moment im with d&a (as they are local to me ) opticians who are a lot more expensive than spec savers

    thanks
