yes you can get astigmatism lenses, they are called toric lenses, but daily disposable ones dont work out very cheap so you will probably want to get monthly lenses if you are going to want to wear them more than a couple of times a week, or save the daily ones for special occasions! best thing to do is make an appointment, i dont know what the others charge for contacts cos they arent really my area of expertise, but i know specsavers will do a free contact lens trial so you can see if you get on with them for free, and there is no obligation to sign up for lensmail or buy lenses from them after
I have toric lenses. They used to be £15 a month from Specsavers, this went down to a tenner a month. Not bad as all although the trade off is that I have to deal with Specsavers!
I use the 'continuous wear' monthly ones. Before I was wearing the 12 hour ones but they aggravated my eyes and I hated not being able to wear them all day if I fancied. Although Specsavers generally berate me for not wearing my new contacts 24/7 I simply can't- they really hurt my eyes and the idea of not taking them out for a month is a rather dangerous one imo. I take mine out at night and sometimes in the evening if I'm not fussed about wearing them, and now they're a lot more comfortable.0 -
After a 2 year break in wearing contact lenses I decided to start again. Boots offered a free lens trial so I am currently trying out some monthly lenses with them (I am due for my last lens checkup in a couple of weeks). I have since realised how overpriced Boots lenses are - online retailers are supplying the same lenses for less than half the price per month! Does anybody know about the T&C's for the Boots Lens Trial - if I don't set up a direct debit with them am I liable to pay for my trial?0

I've done a search and can't find any references to this..now found out also called Orthokeratology.
I was at the optician's yesterday and she told me about nocturnal lenses. Apparently, you wear them at night and they work by reshaping your lens. The result is that you can see during the day without any corrective lenses.
It all seems a bit too good to be true, and I hadn't heard anything about this before.
They cost £249 so not cheap, but not nearly as expensive as laser surgery.
I'm quite happy with my combination of lenses and glasses, but thought this might be worth considering. Anyone ever heard of it? I have googled, but only get adverts, no reviews.0 -
I remembr seeing something about it on This Morning but it was probably about 18mths ago0

As an Optician, apart from certain vocational/recreational requirements, I still can't see the benefit of wearing lenses overnight, instead of during the day.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Hi, can anyone who has contact lenses from specsavers clear this up for me, as Im not getting anywhere with my branch, and I think im loosing my memory!!
I have been on their lensemail scheme for years, with monthly disposables, and used the everyday green lidded multi purpose solution like :
http://www.specsavers.co.uk/contact-lenses/solutions/solutions
Im sure I remember getting a box every three months, with 6 contact lenses, three bottles of solution and three screwtop lense pots.
On my last checkup, I was advised to change solutions to a new multipurpose solution (green but has a turtle on it!) like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Specsavers-easy-vision-contact-lenses-solution---New_W0QQitemZ220534572661QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20100104?IMSfp=TL1001040110001r38408as
because it has no preservatives in it, (unlike my usual one) i was told the pots have a 'cloudy' appearance as they have an antibacterial coating, to make up for the fact that the solution does not have any preservatives.
I now recieve only one pot per three month pack, and the pot just does not last for three months, as the little hinges start to break after being used for over a month, or they simply just dont stay closed and I loose a contact lense at the bottom of the pot, and have to fish it out.
Im not sure if I did only just get one pot, but they were better quality (as I never had this problem before) or if I did actually get three pots??
I have raised this with specasvers, and was told that they have only ever given one pot per three months supply with my old solution, and there is no problem with the pots, its making me doubt myself, and so wanted to check with other specsavers contact lense wearers.
So, do any of you get three or one pot per three months supply with the older version of the multi purpose green top solution?
If you are getting one pot for three months, do your pots ever break before the end of the second or third month?
Thank you!0 -
I only ever get one pot per three month supply and it lasts me all the way to the end of the three months without breaking.0

Mmmm If you are on monthlies my understanding was thet you should always change the pot with each change on lenses, which always seemed good sensible advice.
I can't comment on spec savers but boots have started only supplying 2 cases with their 3 month supply when I ask for an additional one they always agree that its important to change the pot with the lenses.
Could you try this argument with them and explain that you have been told its best practice.2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0 -
I agree, Im sure I used to have a new pot with every new set of lenses. What maybe confusing me is that ny OH has the orange peroxide solutions with the charcole bit in, and he gets a pot a month. I simply cant remember.:o
I have been told that I can go to the branch and ask for a replacement if it breaks before the end of the thrid month. However thats going to get quite inconvenient, as I dont live that close to have to visit two months out of three. They have also suggested that I can use my husbands old pot lids after he has used them for a month, but would have to wash them in milton. However the thread on the peroxide pot tops are different to my pots.
I pay for contact lenses, solutions and pots, they should last for three months, I should not have to be regularly going to the shop every time a lid breaks, or using my husbands cast offs:mad:
If I never had problems with the lense pots before, and now I do, then its something to do with the quality of the pot (or that its only designed to last a month, and Im having to make it last for three)0 -
Hi, I get my lenses from specsavers and only get one pot every 3 months.0
