Today I made my usual monthly overpayment of £300.
I have also sold some shares from my employee scheme so will have a cheque for £1000 winging my way in a few days which will then go to mortgage company for a nice hefty overpayment in addition to my usual one - can't wait to see how much it reduces my term.

other than that - it's the usual: bringing my own lunch into work, I will list some stuff on ebay tonight, should be due some money from Topcashback at the end of the month. Every little counts.

Also I'm going to read the matched betting details really carefully this BH weekend and am thinking of starting MBing to increase my overpayments. Does anyone else do this?

I haven't tried it myself but TallGirl on the Mortgage Free in Three board has had great success with it. You might want to have a read over there.

I haven't done a grocery shop for about 10 days now (apart from some supplies for a barbecue we went to over the weekend) so I have been using up things out of the freezer and storecupboard. I made Twink's hob nobs on Sunday (from the OS board) instead of going to the shop to buy biscuits for DS's lunch box. We were about to run out of milk last night so I made some dried milk up for my cereals and tea this morning. DS doesn't like it but I don't mind it. Mum called round last night with a pizza that had defrosted from her freezer (she left the door open by accident) so that did for mine and DS's dinner last night. I made up some chocolate whip dessert that had a short sell-by date so we used that up.

This morning I was looking through my cupboards and found a tin of mandarin oranges and some orange flavour jelly so I made an orange jelly with fruit dessert for tonight. I also chopped up the melon that had been lurking in my fridge so DS can have a snack when he gets home from school this evening.

I will need to go grocery shopping this evening as I need supplies for sandwiches, but I am pleased with the way I have been able to eke out my shopping for a few days more.

I had a visit to my library yesterday and got a copy of 'The Millionaire Next Door' and Duncan Bannatyne's autobiography 'Anyone Can Do It' for inspiration.

This month I expect to be able to increase my overpayment from £650 planned to £900 so I am very pleased.

I haven't been on the mfw board for ages! I stopped overpaying on the mortgage cos my priorities changed - have just had £4,500 of work done on the house, new toilet (and floorboards and joist....) new shower and isolator-thingy so it can be worked on without switching off *all* the water, new gutters and downpipes all over the place, and six spanking new windows. Sink is blocked but am managing to clear it myself so far. None of this was exactly frittering money, and it had started to feel like I was camping in my own house with everything so horrible and falling apart.

Seems like the big spend is over for the moment, so I'll be back on the wagon again now. However, I'm ill. Again. Big time, can't even sit up at the computer for long.

But this thread is full of gardeners! How lovely - bit scared of my garden, this is my 3rd bout of illness in 4 months, and the garden shows it, even the paths are overgrown, I'm not kidding.

However, I have done things I can manage:
    - have finally triggered a £25 payment from greasy palm.
    - done some searches today on quidco, I really do need a backup device.
    - *haven't* used some amazon vouchers for DVDs, can buy the backup device on Amazon and save more money.
    - with the Tesco vouchers that just came out, there was a £10 reduction if you spend £70, so I did it - need a bit of ready cooked food cos I'm ill, plus lots of staples and things I'm running out of.
    - remembered about getting money from quidco for *selling* on preloved, so will do that when I feel better.

    I am desperate to:
    - clean up a windowsill box and use that to plant veggies, low-price food.
    - clear the garden paths, dig over the garden- improves saleability of house.
    - "I want to grow lettuces this year. I thought they would be better in a container than my garden, so I have decided to go to my local council tip to get an old drawer to grow them in. Hey Presto, instant planter." - copied this from a little earlier in the thread, this is wonderful, I'll definitely be doing this.
    - more matched betting.
    - listing on preloved.
    - do some surveys, the well paying ones.

Altho I still have a debt that isn't mortgage, I can't get out of paying a redemption charge for that, so its better to pay off mortgage (and I can get the money back if need be), so I'm probably back on here for a good long while!

Phew! Off to lie down for a bit.

    Sorry for the partial hijack.

Ooh, thats nice, earthgirl - the bacon and egg pie, I mean. Sorry that you're ill too, but good for you for doing some weeding. I need to keep the bit near the house clear now that I cleared it for the builders, but I really, really need to get further up the garden and clear there. Good luck with yours.

I love this board, and this thread in particular :D . Hope all you 'poorlies' are feeling better soon.

Not a NSD as spent over £70 in Matalan  . however, nice assistant told me to split purchase in 2 & I got 2 £5 vouchers to use in June. And stuff was badly needed......

Have also had a play with spreadsheet & snowball to see how things are looking.
Goal No. 1 - meet MFIT target - Snowball says YES :lovethoug
Goal No. 2 - pay off main mortgage by Aug 2011 - Snowball says NO :o , £4142.53 short, however,
Goal No. 3 - pay off main mortgage and save up the value of 2 BTL mortgages by Aug 2016 - Snowball says YES :lovethoug.
This is based on me paying an additional £500 a month (£250 each from OH & me), which I have struggled with for a few months, but will be paying catch up from next month...... honest guv

Keep up the good fight everyone!

Ali007, that sounds really good progress, well done you!
    • Today I have packed some orders so that I can get them sent off this morning.
    • Rounded down mortgage by grand total of £5 (not much I know, but at least something)
    • Nagged poor DH AGAIN about some more expenses.
    • Can't do a NSD but will def. go for a non fritter day. It helps that we live in the sticks and so need to drive anywhere to spend! :rotfl:
    Have a good day everyone.

There was a knock on our door Monday night, MIL just been to asda and had bread/cake whoopsies. Last night, another knock and there she was with meat/fish whoopsies.
Only just fitted them in my freezer but they're in!
Apart from a whole chicken that wouldn't go in (75p) so we'll be having that roasted tonight with salad veggies from the garden and potato salad.
Planted some lettuce seeds today ready for 12 weeks time. The garlic is starting to grow out the front so now I need to get my onions in! Won't plant any more now for 2 weeks because we go on holiday in 12 weeks- yay!
Can't think of anything else right now though although I'm sure I'm being really moneysaving!

Today I spent £24 on LOs new shoes and £75 on diesel  . Yesterday I bought some new reading books for other LO (£18) but apart from that I've not spent any money and have avoided drawing any money from the bank. If I don't have it I can't spend it. It so different from before I was a MFW then I used to eat lunch out 3 or 4 days a week with two children in tow.
