We're having whoopsied turkey escalopes for tea. No line drying as the weather is poo. Will persuade DS to take his clothes upstairs.
Didn't need heating last night because someone warm and snuggly got into bed with me during the night. Funny I don't mind the kids getting in because it very rarely happens and they don't fidget or they know they'll have to go back to their own beds!
Monstrous ironing pile still to complete and DS and I have just had porridge for lunch as the bread's running low. I'll make another loaf later.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Hi there,
I'm having a good week this week. I brought my lunch to work again. This is now part of my usual routine, I haven't bought a lunch at work for ages. DS has sandwiches for lunch at school so its as easy to make two lots as one. I haven't done any food shopping this week at all, although I need bread now so I'll have to go at some point over the weekend.
Last night I noticed the milk running low, so I made up some powdered milk and put it in the fridge so it was cold for cereals this morning.
I got some minced beef out of the freezer this morning and will make cottage pie for tea.
I need to sort out my wardrobe and drawers so I'll hopefully unearth some ebay-able items as well. I have a gentleman collecting an item on Saturday so that will be £25 more in the pot.
Here's looking forward to a true MSE-MFW weekend. :beer:Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Great thread this, thanks for starting it.
Righto, what have I done this week?
-planted a veg patch to cut down on food costs over the Summer
-loaned loads of gardening and preserving books from library (hope I'll get something to make jam out of!)
-made some rhubarb jam out of out of date rhubarb bought at local co-op 1/2 price
-working part of the weekend (try not to do this usually as I like to be with family) to earn extra money
-Had a chat with the kids about pocket money and we have decided to go back to them earning money for jobs done around the house, they were getting a flat rate on the understanding that they did jobs but no incentive so its back to earning per job
-I have used up everything leftover this week (apart form a few spoons of veg curry which went off in the fridge) I did cheese and potato dauphinois one day and re used the rest in a spanish tortila etc.
-did a batch load of chick pea/veg curry in sc using up aforementioned leftovers enough for 4 meals, ate 1, froze 3.
-got some bits from a jumble sale the other weekend so have put them on ebay and already got bids!
-had to spend about £100 on the dog at the vets but used the 'dog budget' that I regularly save into so didn't feel the pinch on that one.
- kids needed shoes and did the same for that as I have a budget for that too.
-bought clothes at the salvation army last saturday on the 3 for a £1 rail and got some M&S jeans for DD, wool skirt for other DD, t shirt, jumper, trousers, so got clothes topped up for bargain prices (had to laugh as kids argued over who would get the skirt!)
-went to local Indian supermarket to bulk buy rice, spices, beans, lentils etc as cheaper and I reckon price hikes are due. Their popcorn is cheaper also free range eggs are only 79p and halloumi cheese is £1.49 instead of over £2
-this is a right skinflint one...I am measuring out 100mls of orange juice every morning and giving them a cod liver oil tablet for maximum nutrition at breakfast time. Before I did this, the kids just guzzled the juice down in 2 days and there was none left for the rest of the week so now we all get some everyday and if they are thirsty, it water out of the tap.
- re reading thrifty books as I can't emember all the info so a reminder is good.
-sticking to my £250 per month grocery challenge
-did a huge asda shop online for next month and took advantage of the free delivery codes on discount voucher board
- looking on freecycle everyday
- borrowed some wartime recipe books from library and got ideas for recipes
r-using 1tbspn soya flour and 1 tbspn water to replace eggs in baking managed to make eggs last all month with no noticsable difference.
- making knitted chair cushion covers out of old bits of wool leftover (ongoing project)
I think that's it!

Have listed 47 books to sell on GreenMetropolis and am due to post more stuff onto ebay tonight.
Fingers crossed we might have an offer on OH's house from ftb's. It's looking pretty good at the moment.
Grocery bill is at a flat £125 per month for OH and me.
Haven't paid for lunches all week! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

this is a great thread. I've been lurking for about 2 years and often think to myself what little things have I done - just to keep motivated to pay off the mortgage -
Today -
I have watered veg at allotment - hopefully will be providing food in next few weeks.
got my free prescription (as i live in wales).
been to library and got some new reading matter.

Today I:
- checked Gala and found I won £20 on free bingo yesterday so have initiated a withdrawal
- took my own lunch to work
- resisted the temptation to turn the heating on
- posted a book I sold on Green Metropolis last night.
- am planning on entering some competitions tonight - I'm too tired to think about the pile of ironing that needs to be done.0 -
So glad to see this thread starting - gives other people ideas as to what they can do also - not really a good day for me - lots of social spending, but was expected - I've been good for the past few weeks, so am rewarding myself with a night out - arranged a lift though so avoid £20 of cab faresNo longer an accidental landlord, still a wannabe millionaire:beer:

I bought two pairs of skechers for £17 each in the sale, instead of buying the pair I really wanted which were £45. Saving me £11 and getting me two pairs of trainers instead. But I still want the other ones
This may sound counter productive but I reduced my regular monthly mortgage payments. At the moment out mortgage rate is for the first time lower than our ISA rate so all that money is going into ISAs first.
I have taken lunch to work every day this week. And bought some multipack chocolate and crisps to keep at work to help me avoid the vending machines.
But as I type DH is at the pub spending all the money I've been saving!0 -
Today I have paid £6.14 off, to round the mortgage total down and we will hopefully be returning some wood to the timber yard (we ordered too much), for a refund.
Can't do much else until DH's expenses come through.
Have a good weekend."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0
