Originally around £89,000 plus the mortgage. That was back in January 2001.
Debt now down to around £46,000 plus the mortgage.
CCCS had recommended bankruptcy when I contacted them in 2001. I wasn't prepared to do this so I negotiated with all my creditors myself, with partial success. Only two sort ccj route, both now over 6 years old. Still get the odd creditor play up from time to time, I have two outstanding cca requests from Creditors, one refused to play ball and honour the DMP we have in place. The other is a debt bought by a DCA but the original creditor wouldn't answer my letter to confirm the debt had been bought. So I had to resort to cca'ing the DCA.
I hope to be in a position to offer settlements before the years out and be debt free fore ever.

I owe £7000 on creditcards and overdrafts, £26000 on a secured loan with 9yrs to run, £4000 on an unsecured loan with 2 yrs to run and £47 for college fees.
When the unsecured loan finishes in 2 yrs OH csa payments also finish so there will be an extra £450 to throw at the debts each month.
I dont like to think about the secured loan, I will probably try to tackle that when the cc and loans are paid.
It makes me sick to think how much money we would have each month in our pockets if we didnt have debt, this isnt how I planned my life.I cant do the job I want to do because I cant afford childcare, I cant live in the house I want because I cant afford it and that means I cant have any more children because there is no room or no money. What makes it worse is its all my own fault, there was no job loss, no illness, no unexpected tragedy just me and OH spending on holidays and stuff with no thought for the future.

My CC/loan debt at LBM in 2006 was 86K  thats not including morgage or OH debt since then ive paid of 37k just over a third of the way there im due to have CC paid off by end of 2010 hopefully then the loan will be paid by 2013 im taking it in stages and celebrating smaller milestones as if i thought too much about the overall amount i think it would overwhelm me. My OH paid off his last CC in May and has now become a demon saver:T every penny is a prisoner so that should stand us in good stead for the future. Thanks to :money: weve saved a fortune on food utility bills and regular bills (insurance etc via cashback sites) and this has allowed us to pay more towards debt weve been in the fortunate position that we both have good jobs and not had to go down the IVA or DMP route but its a hard slog and ive another 2 years still to go.
