Firstly, what a warm and fuzzy forum this is. Hello.

As to gadgets, I was very disappointed with my hand blender - it just pulverises everything - never use it - glad I got it 2/3rds off. I rarely use my waffle maker, but I have ALWAYS wanted one, so happy to have it. Might just go have a go with it today...yum.
The comments about worktop space are so true - if only I had space for the fruit juicer or sandwich maker, or steamer, or breadmaker... I'm making myself feel hungry now...
Does anyone else have a zillion spatulas (two full drawers) and use just two? Or cutlery - how do we use 19 teaspoons between the two of us? I think I have washing up to do - oooh, which reminds me. We have a dishwasher which was never plugged in - just use it as a table and cupboard!!!
    :wall:
  • I got a sort-of free bread machine from argos - when HSBC stopped doing points on their creditcard i had enough for £55 in argos vouchers. We used it to make rolls for lunch & occasionally cinnamon & raisin bread.

Then the quarterly electric bill came and was £40 higher than the one before it :(
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

That's an expensive table/cupboard! You should plug it in - you will wonder how you ever lived without it and you will probably cook more as you won't have to worry about the mess - just chuck it all in the machine. The rented flat I am in now has a dishwasher (first time I have ever had one) and I love it. :)

The breadmaker & the microwave are the only gadgets which live on the counter and both are used about 1-2 a week (we don't eat a lot of bread but its ALL home made when we do;)) I use an old fashioned kettle which sits on the hob. Oh and the smoothie maker stis on a otherwise usless end of the counter and gets used daily in summer and never in winter. The toaster & the waffle maker live in an easy access cupboard under the counter and get used about once a week. The stick blender gets used about 5 times a week and lives on a high shelf which I can't reach next to the hardly used food mixer which I bought to replace my defunct food processor 4 months ago, ...the logic of my kitchen arrangements is beyond even me....off to move things around!
Now where am I going to keep the yoghurt maker if Santa brings me one???

  • Hi

OH got the old sandwich toaster out of shed today. Havent used it in months! I love the way it seals the ham and cheese inside, rather than squashing 2 bits of toast together..lol. Always butter the outside lightly too  Couldnt manage alot because of toothache but tasted lovely. Im glad I didnt bin it.

I don't have many gadgets but they all get used at least once a week. Except for my pasta machine. I'm so out of practice now that my last lot of pasta turned out like lead. might drag it out again on Sunday if I'm in the mood and try some lasagne sheets. failing that, it's going on Ebay!!!!

You've just reminded me that we have a pasta machine that has only been used once - we used it to make ravioli but the pasta was awful it was so hard. May have to dig that out again this week - for the novelty value if nothing else.

I am currently hankering after a yoghurt maker but its probably a bad idea.

  • Liney, you could make yogurt in a flask - just does exactly the same job. A wide neck one might be best.

My most useless gadget is a mandolin with various blades for cutting veg. All it's good for is taking the ends off your fingers:eek: . I do like my pasta machine though I don't use it very often otherwise I'm not really a gadget person.
(shhh don't tell anyone but I don't have a breadmaker.....but I am considering trying the 5 min artisan bread)
I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:
