Does anyone know if one can take the 25 pound newsletter featured policy via Moneysupermarket and still go through Quidco who offer a cashback for Virgin policies? Would be a saving of about 8 pounds or so off the 25 pound price!

    Thanks in advance
  • Watch out for EHIC exclusions.

Having purchased the Karma annual insurance I discovered the following in the policy:
"This insurance does not cover private health care treatment in countries that operate
reciprocal health care agreements unless it is authorised in advance by the 24 Hour Medical
Assistance Company detailed on the schedule. If you are admitted to a private clinic please
ensure that immediate contact is made with the Assistance Company who arranges a
transfer to an appropriate medical facility."

This will be a nasty shock if you are about to leave (as it takes a couple of weeks to get a card). It also seems a little impractical to me to be expected to dial the 24 hour emergency number with your policy number and your EHIC card in hand while being carried off the slopes with a broken leg.
  • What is the most comprehensive, including all private dental and medical treatment, for traveling to Mexico for a couple (not married)?

I am covered on a family policy through my Dads bank account and various cards but it doesn't include my girlfriend and rather have us both covered on the same policy for the trip.

Danstar - not many travel policies offer full dental coverage, most are limited to pain control only and then usuyally have a money limit on that (about £200.00 normally).

If you are covered on you dad's bank account - be careful - I am not a fan at all of bank policies as most of them are AXA policies and AXA and I are "not the best of friends" - Axa have poor after claims service and have the mos "wriggle out" clauses I have ever seen.

Also as it is your dad's account & therefore policy, you MAY not be covered unless you are traveling with him. Check on that before you find out the hard way.

If you want a recommendaition - Fortis (available from the Post Office [on-line and over the counter]) is an excelent value for money policy but not the cheapest - but, as I ALWAYS say, you should never buy travel insurance based on price alone - you MUST make sure you get the coverage YOU need and then, and only then, you can compare COMPAREABLE POLICIES on their price.

Example - a lady "boasted" on here that she got her travel insurance for less than £6.00 based on 2 travellers for 2 weeks in the USA. After I pointed out it sounded a bit too cheap it turned out she was not covered for medical re-patriation (and that is a huge cost) and medical benefits was limited to £10,000.00 (toda about $16,000.00 US) - according to the FCO you should have at least $5m for medical in the US. As here in our hospital a bad leg break (Fib/Tib & Femur) could cost you over $10k!

The card policy is quite good, a few years ago my sister got a helicopter down the mountain skiing when it was suspected she'd broken her leg and I got a seat on a chartered private plane to fly home after breaking my foot snowboarding.

Price isn't the main issue, just the most comprehensive cover particularly since we're going to Mexico so it's not without reason to think we could end up in America for treatment so I'd be thinking that the Post Office might not be the best idea.
  • I found this for 9.74 (one adult 2 kids to Europe for 6 days) on Atlas Direct with NO excess, Money supermarket found one for £11.74 with £150 excess per person!
I checked the site myself as I saw an ad on a cashback site, initial quote was only £5!!
Maybe worth a try, I always like to get good value and try to avoid high excesses where poss.

    Good luck

  • I have a friend who is in her twenties and a few months ago developed colitis. She is travelling to Norway and Mexico soon and needs to get travel insurance - but wants to make sure she will be covered in case the colitis attacks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for insurers who deal in this pre-existing medical condition?
  • Hi,i am going to America from the 4th February and returning on the 20th and have no clue where to start with finding suitable travel insurance! Any help? I have pre-exisisting kidney condition which is considered stable.I usually go with nationwide or the post office.
  • Any Advice gladly received.

I've booked return flights from Newcastle - London(Heathrow) - San Francisco with BA for our family 2 Adults and 2 Offspring (Aged 21 & 18).Have yet to book accommodation and car hire for 3 week trip.

I would like recommendations for best VFM policy (Not necessarily the cheapest) to cover Medical/ Emergency- £2million, Personal Liability-£1million and Baggage £1.5k at least. I will also need Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance( SAFI) included if possible.

Does Fortis Insurance/P J Hayman Insurance policies include SAFI?

Also, does SAFI protect you if BA decide to go on strike on our flight dates?

Would be grateful if someone more knowledgeable than me could point me in the right direction.
