  • I'm new at posting here, but couldn't see anything relevant, sorry if I've missed something.
Anyway, I'm just letting you know about a duplication in travel insurance I've just experienced. I have an annual policy with Directtravel (which includes coverage for Airline Failure Protection) and have just booked a flight through Netflights (which has added £1.99 for Airline Failure Protection and also £1.99 for Atol Protection cover - I don't know what this is) I phoned Netflights and the guy there said there was 'nothing he could do' There was no option to cancel these items while booking.
This is just to warn everyone but I'd be interested in any comments.
    Thanks.

Those specific questions can ONLY be answered by calling the IC customer service - any one here canm only give opinion and not fact - call the IC and ask - If you have book your flight, have your flight number at hand and check that it is a scheduled flight (you mention BA [Bad attitude!] and if a BA XXX number you should be scheduled - I think).

I like both companies Fortis & P J Hayman they are in the top of my list and way above average after claims service

Thanks for your advice - I think I'll ring both the afiorementioned Companies and another Company I got a quote from via theidol.com. Whoever gives the best answers/customer service will get my business!

I've looked at American Express and I think given the comprehensive nature of the policy I'm going to take out my Own Yearly Annual Prestige Policy.

My girlfriend will be covered on it when she travels with me, it's so comprehensive plus I get 280 days of cover a year, which is good as I will be in America Sept-to-Dec, Jan-to-May.

It will be about £160, sounds a lot but I like to thing with things like insurance, care tyres and brakes (real things you don't want to skimp on) 'a penny saved is a pound wasted'

Are you aware that the maximum for any one trip is 120 days and 31 days for Europe (A trip is defined as from the date you leave the UK to the date you return to the UK). If your intended trip is longer than the 120 days it's possible AE won't pay any claims.

    "Duration of your Policy
The Prestige Policy duration is one year:
    • Worldwide Cover allows trips of up to 120 days each.
    • Worldwide Cover excluding North America and
The Caribbean area allows trips of up to 120 days each.
    • European Cover allows trips of up to 31 days each, or 62
days if you have paid the appropriate additional premium"

Does your girlfriend live with you? If she doesn't she may need her own policy as she won't be classed as a partner.

Fully aware of that, I have spoken to them on the phone. I will be coming home over Christmas and for Easter so I wont be out there for 120 days at a time.

I have also spoken to them about my girlfriend, I told them she doesn't live with me the only stipulation was that we have been together for over 6 months, I said yes but there wont be any evidence of this as and the person over the phone said it was fine.

I would ask them to confirm this in writing as their policy wording states she is not covered unless she has actually lived with you for 6 months of more.

    "Family
You, your spouse or partner (with whom you have been living
for at least six months with whom you are still living) and
your, or their, children who are under 21 years old on the first
day of the period of insurance"

Page 22 / 23 of the policy under definitions of words, she is most definately not covered under the policy wording so if they are making an exception you need it in writing

Thank you, I will make sure it's in writing.

Don't hold your breath on them confirming it in writing as I doubt they will, if they do you have got a real result as you would normally need a policy each.

I've booked flights with Brussels airlines over the phone (as there was a problem with their website). They asked me to go to Heathrow within 5 days to pay for the flights! I refused, so they said that I can pay for the flights in person and recieve the tickets on the day that I fly.

Are these flights that I have booked but not paid for yet covered by travel insurance?
