Malc "Fraud would be if you lied about hitting the car in front. If you really hit the car then the holiday insurance would cover you."
No - Fraud is what you are doing - you purposly cause an accident in order to make a false accident claim.
What you are saying about lying above is Purgery! Either way, it's illegal!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Conkers - whatever policy you chose telephone the insurers, they may extend (at a cost of course) - On-line applications are aimed at the popular policy and travel requirements, if you need specialist, then you need to call a specialist at the IC. And check that you get the cover that you asked for once you receive your documents.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

I can agree with most of what Donnawood says - but add this - the list above is not insurance companies - have a look at the bottom of the policy documents or scedule - or if on-line go to the very bottom of the "policy details" or "important information" page and it will say "this policy is underwriten by XXXXXX" that's how you will know who the insurer is - STAY AWAY FROM AXA.
My recommendation (based on my work results) is Post Office insurance by Fortis (or Fortis directly from a reputable Broker).
FH Brit, my point in my last post highlights a blog where people are complaining about their claims not being paid out under Fortis policies for the collapse of FlyGlobespan and being referred to the Administrator. Perhaps your recommendation of Fortis is not appropriate for this cover. As a matter of interest whats wrong with AXA I thought they were a big name in insurance ?0 -
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - new here! My wife & I are looking for annual travel insurance for Europe - the usual standard stuff except my wife has emphysema (COPD) which we should declare. For info. this is quite mild and does not really cause problems for what we do. By declaring this on our previous annual cover with the Pru the cost really rocketed. Anyone found a site where this condition is covered without the cost being prohibitive? Much obliged.0

I thought it best to use Martin Lewis to give some ideas when my current insurer increased their premium 3 times when I reached 66. This site referred me to moneysupermaket.com. They gave me a list, of which the three cheapest companies where half the price of my original quote, or less.
I thought it prudent to investigate. It appears that Elect, 1st4u and Insurefortravel are interconnected in some way. SW Technologies and an Irish co, White Horse, are involved. Further I read some not too favourable reviews of one of these companies, the blogs alledge consistently that the company is very picky about paying out - any slip would result in a refusal. If you use them, read the small print, and follow to the letter (how you do this if your are incompacitated is hard to see).
I was rather disappointed that a site hosted by martin lewis, who has such a good reputation, should indirectly promote such compaanies. A more balanced list would have been more helpful, afterall, price is not everything.
Does anyone have any good experiences with other cost effective companies?0 -
Rob - White Horse - Stay Away from them. (And AXA too) my 2 least favorite companies. White Horse = you have no back up from The FSA if things go bad, they are in Ireland and therefore UK laws protecting you are invalid!!!
Use the search above for AXA and hite Horse - see what others say.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

They are pretty lenient with PEMC's and it's not the cheapest but great value for money - cheapest no always the best.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

My boyfriend and i booked a holiday on the 17th of January to go to cancun mexico on the 16th of september 2010. We are going for two weeks and will return on the 1st of October.
We didnt take out insurance with the travel agent because it worked out £104 in total.
My boyfriend is 26 in June and i will be 25 in March we have no pre-existing medical conditions.
Ive been shopping around and have been quoted £41.36 from js insurance in total through the comparision site squaremouth. The thing is if im paying out that cheap for the insurance what is the catch?
Last year we went to mexico and took out insurance with go compare and i made a claim because my camera stopped working and they never covered me due to wear and tear??
I just want insurance that covers me for cancellation, delays, medical expenses, baggage, personal belongings.
Any suggestions?
Thank You.0 -
There is no one size fits all with travel insurance. Unfortunately you are going to have to read the policies or at least the key facts to ensure that the policy covers everything you need it to.
Have a read HERE as it lists most of what you should be aware of when choosing a policy. There is also a list of companies to try.
By all means use a comparison website such as moneysupermarket to get quotes, but be very careful with the cheapest ones as it may not be obvious what you are NOT covered for.0 -
Thankyou Chris - the Post Office PEMC is very lenient and in fact we could answer No to all 5 questions meaning the standard quote would cover us. Much obliged.0
