Many thanks 'oldharryrocks' - I phoned an 0344 phone number today for 3 minutes and was charged 5 pence by 18185 - 5 pence for the connection fee and zero pence per minute call rate.
But I still didn't hear any messages about call charge tariff or if it is or isn't supported by 18185 or dialling tone before the phone call was answered.0 -
My phone line is a BT line, we've had the number for about 7 years. We are even with BT for broadband and phone line rental. But... When I try and sign up the system on 18185 and 1899 and the other one says "This phonenumber is not allowed"
I have spoken to BT 3 times and they assure me that the phone can access any phone numbers specifically including 1899 and 18185 and is not blocked in any way.
but the only reply I get is...
Dear Customer,
We are sorry but the number you are trying to register will not be accepted in this system. You can try registering with a different number instead.
Kind regards,
Customer service
That is really not helpful. Are there any other services that work out at 5p per call for off peak calls or is there a way round the problem?
Cheers Alex0 -

No their are not any other services like that apart from 18185,1899,and 18866 all part of the same group.
The services do actually offer you just 5p a 01/02/03 call anytime 24/7 not just offpeak by the way.
If you have a mobile phone register that number. Then try to add your landline number once you have done that.. This has been known to get round the problem.0 -

Thanks for the info. Sadly all I get is "This phonenumber is not allowed" when I try and add it to the account I set up for my mobile phone.
Whoever supplies them with the database supplies them with incorrect information! I have asked them to update the database but they cant/wont. So I have asked who supplies the database to them but no response yet. Incidental I couldn't move our broadband to talktalk as there system said there is an error on our line. I didn't think this was a great loss so didn't do anything about it. The line works fine.0 -
Grr... I'm getting "This phonenumber is not allowed" too. One of the numbers I tried is with BT, ported from Tesco (before they were TalkTalk). The other is a Sipgate number (I'm cheeky :P I want low cost for VoIP calls)
I've sent them a message.
Meanwhile... I found Dial123, and although they're a pay as you go service, not an account invoice service (not even an override operator, but if you have inclusive landline calls you can use those to "override" your carrier), their prices are so low that I'm still trying to figure out what the catch is.0 -
Have been with 18185 a few years and went on the lowest rental with BT to save money. To start with i was paying no charge per minute only connection charge, then it went to half pence per minute which is still great but now it has gone up to 7pence a minute.I find this jump very high and they never warned this would happen.
Any body knows any other company doing calls cheaper0 -

To be fair, it is not 7p/min. It is 0.7p/min, which is different!
And 6p/min for mobiles. If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..0 -
Are you calling the UK from a UK landline? I just checked and the rate is 0.7p, so 7p would be for a 10 minute call. Plus 5p fee.
Thanks for pointing out the rate rise. I see our calls to Swiss landlines now cost 1.5p per minute and a ludicrous 25p/minute to Swiss mobiles. Plus 4p fee.
Time to expand WhatsApp and Skype.0 -
Thank you for pointing the 07p out,i thought it had gone up quite a bit at 7pence.!!0
