    Nonsense !!!

EG Some examples Skype Connection Charge 3.9/6.9p

    UK Landline 1.6p a minute
    UK Mobile 17.1p a minute
    UK 0845 9.2 p a minute
How are they cheaper then http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php

The thread I referred to said:
"but it has sent me today an email saying that I can contact any landline in (for example) France or Germany at 0.5p/minute, with a 0p connection fee. For a mobile it is 3p/min."
So they would be cheaper, yes?
Not saying that everything would be. Actually I was just asking what others thought..
If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

Strikes me that 18185 is really insecure...

If you are in someone's house that has a 18185 account, all you need to do is lift their receiver and dial 0808 170 1818.

This automatically gives you their account number which is also their login password.

You can then at your leisure simply log into their account and view their personal details as well as view their itemised phone call details.

Why on earth do they not have the account password protected ?
  • If you are in someone's house... you can do far worse things than that!

I think the risk you refer to is pretty small overall.

Problem with frozen account - does anyone know an actual number where you can speak to a person for 18185. They have an email address and a phone number with no options to speak to an operator. My mums account is frozen due a payment not being taken off her credit card and she can now no longer access her account to update the credit card details

My step-daughter's experience of a similar payment 'failure' 6 years ago led me to find a solution and it's detailed in the below post.

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=5603177&postcount=204

A few days later, her access to the service resumed and she was then able to log into her account to alter her payment method (a change of credit card or changing to direct debit would do).

    Best of luck.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you have inclusive landline minutes https://www.weq4u.co.uk will connect any 0870 call, and most well known 0845 customer service numbers at no extra cost.

Right Anita, here we go icon7.gif

Just Dial is your CPS (Carrier Pre Select) which means that instead of all your calls going through BT you only pay your line rental to BT and from the exchange all your calls will go through Just Dial.

With 18866/1899/18185 the calls only go through them when you pre dial say 1899 before the full number you are calling.

So in your case I am assuming you have free evening and w/end calls with Just Dial, no pre dialing of another number, and through the day you are cheaper using one of 18866/1899/18185 depending on if you are phoning local, international or mobiles.

With 18866/1899/18185 you only pay for calls you make (and get through) and there is no monthly charge so there is no harm in having accounts with all three. (I do)

Some people are experiencing difficulty with the busy tone using 1899/18866/18185 so just try again or if you have accounts with them all try using another one.

With 1899/18866/18185 you will be billed monthly if your account is large enough, if it isn't much they will carry the amount forward until such times as they deem it sufficient to take the money from you.

Hope this helps in some way, if not just come back and ask another question.

    Many thanks!
  • Does anyone know if 0344 phone numbers are supported by 18185 and are they 'zero pence per minute' like 01 & 02 fixed line phone numbers?

I've dialled an 0344 phone number but I don't hear any messages about call charge tariff or if it or isn't supported by 18185 or dialling tone before it answers. Looking at my invoice shows the call went through 18185 as it's listed with only 5 pence charge for 20 seconds before I hung up, suggesting 'zero pence per minute'

I emailed 18185 but never received a reply.
