...and it gets worse ! Got an email yesterday evening telling me what I already knew -the payment had failed!....went to the payment details page to find that they had wiped off the NEW bank account details even tho' they had tried to DD the old account, and there were now no payment details held.
No way to do a direct BACS given and I didn't want to give them my debit card details so I've put the old bank details back in for DD.
This morning I get a reply to my website message asking me to confirm that my account number ends xxxxxx -but that is the OLD bank account sort code -not the account number!!
Why did I start this account switch:(

There is a way and Heinz may be along soon to confirm and give details.

The info I have may be out of date.

    EDIT:

I just found THIS thread by Heinz

It had no link, It was not to long and I have no idea why.
  • I've got O2 broadband and soon to migrate to Sky. I've been tempted of offers to move my line rental to Sky talk but currently on Primus and also using 18185. I know Sky blocks 18185 but can some tell me if 18185 alternative numbers beginning 0808 and 0208 works. If 0808 works is Sky charging for these calls?

Yes. Use the 0808 1 707 703 access number and Sky won't charge you anything.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

this forum thread here points out that making calls via Skype is now - apparently - significantly cheaper than any of these 18185 type services, especially if you have Sky landline as I do so have to use the 0808 alternative
If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

Just got connected to Sky this week and have been digging further about using the 0808 for 18185 service. I don't know if it is true but have read that Sky charge for this particular 0808 number as is a IDA. I'm afraid to use the service in case is true. Can anyone comment on this?

You have been able to use it for years on Sky , so i am pretty sure if it had been blocked we would have seen reports by now.

Not that Sky could charge you more to ring it anyway because you cant change the cost of a call in mid flight. If it starts free thats it.

    Nonsense !!!

EG Some examples Skype Connection Charge 3.9/6.9p

    UK Landline 1.6p a minute
    UK Mobile 17.1p a minute
    UK 0845 9.2 p a minute

How are they cheaper then http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php
