    Also research the ingredients yourself.

Things like Olay Regenerist can contain SLES and even SLS in the same formula. I'd only use that as a body scrub, never on my face.

Ugh, I looked this up and that does look like bad news (and is in my cleanser, probably in my shampoos and soaps, too). I'll probably keep using them for now as I have tons of the stuff. This is what I found:
"In the same way as it dissolves the grease on car engines, sodium lauryl sulfate also dissolves the oils on your skin, which can cause a drying effect. It is also well documented that it denatures skin proteins, which causes not only irritation, but also allows environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin.
"Perhaps most worryingly, SLS is also absorbed into the body from skin application. Once it has been absorbed, one of the main effects of sodium lauryl sulfate is to mimic the activity of the hormone Oestrogen. This has many health implications and may be responsible for a variety of health problems from PMS and Menopausal symptoms to dropping male fertility and increasing female cancers such as breast cancer, where oestrogen levels are known to be involved."

    Thanks.

I didn't know that - it seems to be in nearly everything I've got ! It also appears in toothpaste. "Many, though not all, toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or another of the sulfate family. SLS may cause a greater frequency of mouth ulcers in some people as it can dry out the protective layer of oral tissues causing the underlying tissues to become damaged."
I always used to get ulcers till I found a non SLS one.

    Hi, Darkangel

I like the clinique city block. I have the spf 40 for the summer, since I have very light skin. I like this one because it is not oily at all and it kinda of looks like a foundation because it is brown (though it is colourless). But because it is dry, you can apply foundation and make-up on top. I don't use either, but the fact that it does not shine as other suncreens I find it really good. And it is £13.50, so not much more expensive than the boots ones.

I use moisturiser with spf 15, but think I might want to add a higher sun block on top of that. I don't use foundation though and want whatever I use to be color-free. Clinique City Block gets high reviews, but you say it looks like a foundation? Also, there is a 25 spf that is oil-free (good), but the 50spf doesn't say it is. What do you recommend?

I've also looked at the No7 Anti-aging face stuff, and it doesn't look bad, but I can't find reviews.

Also, does anyone know when/what the next Clinique gift is? I want to pay for this suncare stuff with points, which means I won't be able to use coupons, but I will still get the free gift. On the No7, I know I can get 342 now or wait and get the gift.

I emptied my purse of tillspits yesterday, 4 TD Wipes (Was 2 left @ Chelmer Village about 4pm) plus the facial pamper set and starter set - they're fab!

I also picked up a long bath mat for £1 and an old MF GWP for £1 containing make up sponge, mirror, sharpener & powder brush.

I'll now be on the look out for baby department bargains.... I'm pregnant :j Due 10th Jan 2009.
Wins since September 2011: Wedding (Worth £3500) :j Bridesmaids Headpiece (Worth £40) National Wedding Show VIP tickets (Worth £70) £100 Shopping vouchers... :D

  • Photocorners

I know people have been talking about photo corners. My (small) boots has them in clearance 25p a pack and BOGOF. I've bought 4 packs if anyone is interested and there were about 4 or 5 packs left which I could always go and get if necessary.
    Anyone interested?

skibster, I went searching for exactly the same stuff last year. It's useful to know, but in the real world it's almost impossible to avoid (I think 90% of shampoos, shower gels, toothpastes, etc contain it).

Naked at Boots is free of SLES, but I found the Naked facial skincare irritated me too.

Almost all the websites that warn about dangerous chemicals in toiletries are trying to flog you "harmless" substitutes, so there's an obvious conflict of interest there.

For an eye-opener, research the ingredients in one of the Body Shops "natural" products... ;)

I am toying with slurging some points on an epilator as finding a window of time to wax is becoming problematic ( all those trips to Boots )

.com have a few in the sale with good prices, is anyone able to recommed one or slate one even ( not wanting to waste points now )

    Thanks
