I did not mean to leave the hardware out for ever, just give XP time to sort itself out rebooting one at a time.

If it works in safe mode it will be a hardware/driver issue.

I know what you meant, but too lazy at the moment to start bothering with opening up the case etc. The amount of time it may take even if it works and then reinstalling the devices and device drivers one by one will probably take same time as a fresh install. I've seen other people are having similar problems on other forums though.

I haven't seen any, but this seems to work and it's certainly not difficult to get to grips with. :)

Anyone know exactly what's new in SP3? Except the usual security fixes etc. Anything useful/interesting?

Performance is improved massively, it chops a big lump off of the system resources required to run windows, particularly RAM.

There's no need to wait, SP3 has been out for months, I downloaded the RC ages ago and installed without an issue. There will always be a percentage of PCs that will have issues, but for the majority the install will go without a problem.

Just tried to install it on a test machine and it went crazy, because the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\Sample Music\Beethoven's 9th file was missing! I suspect it's a dodgy permissions issue (unless MS have made a very sensitive installer), will test and try again...

I've put mine on hold, at least for a couple of days, because I have some important stuff to sort and daren't take any risks.

After reading some of today's posts.......I thought I'd seen something in the tea leaves.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. SP2 was available on disc as well as download.

Was talking to a guy at IT who downloaded SP3. He had some problems with it and then took it off.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
